Johnstone will recognize many of the beloved characters in this story including Preacher, Jamie Ian McAllister, Audie and Lobo, plus many more. Jamie and his wife, along with friends of several nationalities and skin colors, settle in a beautiful Colorado valley to raise their big family. Of course, bad guys, bears, and Indians all have to be dealt with and peace is hard won. This is the first time I recall this author dealing with the issue of homosexuality as one of the many sub-themes and vignettes. It’s well done and does not overwhelm the other themes of the book. This is one of Johnstone’s best books and I hated to see its conclusion. Review: The Same Genre As Zane Gray - I just finished “Dreams of Eagles.” It was difficult to put the Kindle down sometimes after midnight and later in the morning. William W Johnstone did a masterful piece of work with this story of the West as he follows in the footsteps of Zane Gray who, I think set a high bar for the writers of those times of our history.
