Definitely does leave a residue that attracts dirt
If you are using this for shag carpet it probably won't leave much of a residue, but for low pile carpet it definitely does. There is a palpable stickiness to the carpet after removing the protectant film and after a few days that portion of the carpet does get dirty because of the dirt attracted. I am not sure if any such solution is truly residue free, but this one is definitely going to leave a residue. Buyer beware.Edit: I added two stars to my initial low review after trying two other brands of carpet protecter and they all left the stickyness behind. We rented a steam cleaner from the grocery store and the carpet looks new, so this protector stuff may all just require that after use. At the end of the day, I'm happy that my carpet is intact rather than what would have happened if I didn't use this protector film.

Leaves Residue
I read the reviews before I bought this, and a few people said it leaves a residue but many said it was great and did not leave a residue. So, when I moved into my condo which had brand new wall-to-wall carpeting, I put this down we would not have to take off our shoes when moving all the furniture in. It was easy to apply with two people, and it was great during the move with several people walking in and out all day. Since I still had a few more items to move in over the next couple of weeks, I left it on for two weeks. It said that it could be left for up to 60 days so I didn't think that would be a problem. However, when I removed it, it left a visible residue! There is a line on my carpet wherever the plastic film was, and the parts that had the film on it still feel slightly sticky when you walk on it. It looks kind of like it does when you vacuum, as if the carpet fibers on one side of the line are facing one direction and the fibers on the other side of the line are facing the other direction. But, no matter how I try to fix it, using my hand, or the vacuum cleaner, it just always has that line. It has now been 6 months since I moved, and it is still there, and I can still feel the residue when I walk on those areas (which is most of the areas in my house since I covered a lot of it for the move). When you look at it, it doesn't look that bad, it just looks like it does when you've vacuumed and no one has walked on the carpet yet. But, it won't go away! We paid thousands of dollars for the carpet and I'm really disappointed, because I carefully followed the directions, and it promised no residue, but now my brand new carpets will probably have these lines forever.I plan to contact the company and see if they have suggestions but I have not yet done so. I was hoping over time it would fade, but as I said, it has been 6 months and the residue is still really obviously still there.

Will leave residue
Protected the carpet but definitely left residue after pulling it up. I’m not sure how to remove it as well which is really annoying as I’m sure my carpet that I was trying to protect is now going to attract more dirt to the now sticky surface of it.
