Very good, varied styles of 70s soul
Great album with some well known chart hits & some lesser known ones. Standout tracks would be:My Man A Sweet Man - by Millie Jackson: nothing like her later 'Bitch is Black' stuff but an up tempo 'Northern Soul' hit.He Didn't Know (He Kept On Talking) - by Garland Green. Lovely ballard about a cheating wife, really well sung. You've Come A Long Way Baby - by Flower Shoppe. Great uptempo singalong soul just right for summer! If only stuff like this could chart today! Are You Ready Do The Bus Stop - Fatback Band Their 1st big UK chart hit & part of a craze for songs featuring bus stops! Really nice example of jazzy funk! (their later 'Spanish Hustle' was even better though)Seveal tracks by Joe Simon are included but my favourite is Step By Step - great, distinctive vocal & memerable song.Really the whole album is good & some parts great!
