The length is about 18 1/2 inches and I am using them to hold two thick jacquard curtains. The magnets are very strong and hold the material easily and the length is just right to keep from crushing the fabric. I purchased the beige and silvery tiebacks which match my curtains and do just what I wanted. Some people commented that the ties were too long but you can purchase the same ties from this company in a smaller size, approx 13". They're called minis.
