## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which of the 4 screws are power/ground and in/out? They are not labeled.**
A: I believe you want to know which terminal is power and neutral. Ground is not connected to any terminal, ground would be connected to the frame of the enclosure. This is an AC device, not DC.

If you look on the printed circuit side of the board you will see one wire trace goes directly from one terminal to another terminal and no place else, those are the two neutral terminals. Refer to the diagram for line (input) and load (output) terminals.

**Q: How do i wire this for 110? there is an in-n, in-l, out-l, out-n. i connected this on the hot leg to the in-n and out-n. fan runs but no speed change**
A: I used mine for varying the speed of a series wound "universal" motor. A motor with brushes and commutator. It worked to vary the speed. I wired it with the two terminals closest to the heat sink to the 110 the two closest to the variable resistor to the motor.

**Q: Will this work to dim some 500w halogen work lights?**
A: I think the answer would be "yes" with some constraints. "Yes" in that my experience has been it overheats at half the 2000 watt rating, but 500 watts should be OK. You should read up on halogen bulbs because unlike tungsten filament bulbs, halogens need to be operated at a certain minimum temperature. You should be able to dim them down to about 70% duty cycle as long as you also operate them at 100% for substantial periods at other times. Otherwise, I think you may have some condensation of tungsten on the glass tube surface. But as far as the wattage is concerned, this device should be ok t 500 watts. If you exceed its capacity it will have thermal shut down until it cools off. You won't have a huge investment if you decide to try it -- either in the PWM device or the tungsten bulbs. Just make sure you don't go below 70% duty cycle and check the bulb surface from time to time for evidence of metal deposits (silvering) and run at 100% duty cycle for a time to remove it. Good luck.

**Q: Will this work in a led dimming circuit, between the ac mains and a dim able led driver?**
A: "...LED's do not work with AC current"
That is not true. Yes an LED is a diode and only conducts in one direction but that doesn't mean that it won't light up if hooked to an AC source. It will act like any diode and will only conduct on one half of the AC cycle.
The 2 things to be considered are:
1. What is your "dim able led driver"? Is it meant to be driven by standard AC house current? If so, you're good to go. If it's expecting DC, then it might work but will only work with one half of the AC cycle.
2. The LED may produce light that is strobing at 60 cycles since it's off half the time. Not good for lighting. Great for headaches.
Bottom line get a standard light dimmer switch.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great dimmer or speed controller
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 16, 2023*

For everyone who is curious about how it works. I wired this up to a 60w incandescent light and observed the wave. This appears to he a triac controlled device, when the dial is turned down cuts the sine wave down, when it's turned up, it allows it to go up. At full speed the wave is still partially cut but only slightly, that's just because of efficiency. This works great on my CNC shop vac, and other universal motor speed controls. Works great on resistive loads like motors, light bulbs, and probably AC heaters too (depending on the type). (Does not work on led light bulbs as they function different internally). For those of you who want to use this to vary the voltage, this won't work. The rms voltage will change a little but since the sine wave is only shortened it will still hit the high voltage levels of ~169v peak unless the wave is shortened to just a tiny piece of it. When I initially tested this is was giving full voltage full duty Cycle the whole time, it wasn't until I put a resistive load on the device that it actually began working.I have several of these because for my uses they work fantastic.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this thing works

I bought this little controller to slow down a 110 vac exhaust fan about 10% or so. It was very noisy.I mounted it into a single gang box and it seems like it gets hot in there so I will probably have to vent the box somehow. But it works! It works good. There are no instructions and I read some of the other reviews so I was careful wiring it up. I adjusted the on board pot and I have full range control on the main pot. I am happy with my purchase. It fixed my noisy fan for 7 bucks! Now when I turn the fan on I blip it to 100% for a second then I adjust it to about 50%. It works great!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ First Look and bench testing

Powering a 5.4 amp drill, at first the device was too touchy, and only worked for a very small movement of the main potentiometer; the motor would jerk and hunt if turned too far. As others have noted, this is because it lowers output RMS voltage, and is tuned for 220V, but I was using 110. Many CW turns of the small trim pot gave me full range of speed-pot adjustment, and the motor seemed happy when full CCW of the main pot gave about 78V output with the motor running. I haven't tried it under load yet, other than to hold the chuck a bit by hand. The pot is smooth and seems substantial, and requires a 9/32" (7mm) hole, with enough thread for 1/8" maximum panel thickness (although thicker than 1/16 would allow the knob to rub on the panel if seated all the way). No room between traces/components for drilling stand-off mounting holes, but the pot mounting bracket is substantial enough to mount the device that way, as long as wires are supported. A small tab protrudes next to the pot, and a 3mm hole should be drilled in the panel 9/32"OC beside the potentiometer hole for clearance, but this will also keep the device oriented by preventing it from it from turning. Screw terminals appear a bit flimsy, but tighten "well enough" for up to 12AWG stranded wire. I'll update my review as I put this into use. And I'll use caution with low speed, as airflow and motor cooling will be diminished. I'll never give a 5 star rating until a device has lasted a year, but this performs as promised so far.
