Better than Evans
I'm comparing this to the Evans mutes for a 14" hi-hat and like this much better. The Evans is basically a rubber overlay you just lay on top of your hi-hat. For sticks, Evans is quieter. With these you still strike directly on the cymbal with your sticks, so when playing ride patters on your hi-hat, it's louder It's similar to if you mute your cymbal with one hand while striking it with a stick. However, when opening and closing the hi-hat, these are much better. The Evans doesn't mute much at all, these mute extremely well. Had no trouble getting them on and stayed on really well (which was not the case with the 20" ride, came off a few times before finally staying on).

works but very fragile
this will completely mute your cymbals to the point there is no sound heard from the next room. But they are a pain to put on, if the rubbery part is spose to be pinched over both sides like the instructions suggest then they dont stay in place past a hit or 2, and even if you hit them the way that the instructions tell you to they lasted me a month before they turned to tatters rags. In summary: if you need to play as quietly as possible these are the quietest mutes I've ever used. If you want something to last awhile look elsewhere. These have their use, but not a 1 size fits all.

Not good solution for acoustic to electric conversion
Was looking for extra dampening on my low volume cymbals so I could throw a piezo on there, but this just isn't a permanent enough solution for me. To be fair they didn't say that it was, it's just supposed to quiet full volume acoustic cymbals.I threw on my old ride and tried it out, really really cut down on volume and treble overtones, stopped all wash. Wife could still hear upstairs (untreated basement music room) but hardly noticable. Not for me but a great product nonetheless.

Drummers! Get these!
Been whacking on these for a few days now and I’m frankly just impressed. Purchased These for 2 sets of hihats, and on both they work extremely well with damping the sound and still feel really good to play.Be slightly cautioned, there are a lot of reviews talking about them being hard to install. That’s not entirely the case. They do take some patience to get on, and you can’t beat the crap out of them right away, or they will fly off. I highly suggest getting them placed, pressing around the edges to help them form a bit, and leaving for a day or two before you try to start putting them through some work. This allows the elastic to really hold its shape better and stay on the whole time.

manufacturer did not test the product enough to notice problem
I decided not to leave only one star because I am using the product, but I do not like that I had to modify it in order to make it useful. I am using Scotch Drafting tape that I used to use on the drafting boards when I was a design engineer. The Cymbomute is very hard to install, I think if I had a third hand, it would be easier to install. Once the Cymbomute is installed, they tend to dismount after a time of playing. Particularly when used on a hi-hat. I modified the Cymbomute by taping the mute to the hi-hat top cymbal on the top side and the bottom side of the same cymbal. Please note, that with enough paper towels and Drafting tape, I can achieve the same effect as what I did with the Cymbomute product. However, it would take a little longer to install and remove because there is more tape needed. I am not pleased with the fact that the manufacturer did not test the product enough to notice this problem and make their own modification to the product. After applying these to my cymbals and after using tape to hold them on, they still managed after a while to just come off of the cymbal. I have no idea how these people could say that this product is: 1. Easy to install 2. actually works well.EDITED; I purchased the 14, 16 and the 20 inch sizes. I wrote my review only after installing the 14 inch size. However, after I installed the 16 and the 20 inch sizes, I realized that the 14 inch was the better of the three. This product is totally worthless and takes too much time to install and then has to be retained by using tape to keep the mute in place. I think this would be the first product I have purchased and reviewed where I feel that a negative star score would be more appropriate than the one star I posted.

Great design, very effective
The cymbomute is a great design and very well-made. It is extremely effective at muting any cymbals including hi-hats. Just be aware that this product basically completely kills the sound. The only place you get a decent sound when using these is on the bell of the ride. I had read other reviews that said the same thing, and they are correct. I wish there was a solution that would cut the sound by 75-80 percent, but I don't care for the rubber pads on the cymbals. 5 stars since it does exactly what it is designed to do, even thought I'm still interested in something better for my purposes.

Perfect!
They're not as hard to put on as others have complained about. Just hold up the cymbomute on one end, push the edge of the cymbal to it and push both to your abdomen. Then start running your hand all the way around the circumference of the cymbal, aligning the cymbomute as you go. It's not rocket science. As far the the muffling, WOW!! These really kill off the sound, amazing!! Thanks to these I can now practice with full dynamics at home with no remorse for my neighbors. One thing to note is that I did leave them on for the first 48-72 hours so that the crease would get "stronger", because at first they had a tendency to pop off on some hits. But once I left them on for a couple of days, they no longer pop off while playing, so I can take them on and off as is recommended.

I couldn’t be happier!
Great option for cymbal muting. It’s actually the best I’ve come across for my needs (I’ve tried a lot of different ones)I mainly use it on my bottom hi hat cymbal , and it allows me to practice left foot coordination excercises late into the night .... even in an nyc apartment :)

Doesn't stay on
Does work. Falls off every time you try to hit the crash. Bought the 13/14/15 for my 14" crash and it slips off EVERY time. The 18/19 for my ride is okay, but only if you hit the middle of the cymbal with the exact tip of your stick... Try to hit a crash on the edge and it pops off. Not worth it.

Nice mutes!
Perfect fit! Works very well! They are a little tricky to get on at first but once you figure it out they are great!
