This book won't teach you UML from scratch but it is an excellent aide-memoire.
Having done a couple of UML courses, I should know what I'm doing, but there are times when I need to remind myself of an aspect of UML that I haven't used recently. This book is excellent at reminding me what I should already know. It is well laid out and provides all the essential information. In fact the book is so useful, people are forever borrowing it form my desk. I bought this third edition to replace my second edition copy, which seems to have been permanently borrowed by someone! My only reason for not awarding five stars is the price. It seems a bit expensive for such a slim paperback.

Well written
I have never been one to create my own UML drawings and I have decided its time this changed. My first UML book was more of a UML specification document and quite honestly terrible. This book is certainly not a specification document and has not disappointed. I have now started creating my own drawing and having read half of the book have taken to just using it as a reference book. Whilst this is not an overly thick book, from my point of view it was not brief, that is to say, there is plenty of discussion on points of interest.

Must HAVE!
If you work in industry where diagrams are a means to an end and something you don't spend weeks working on (we're lucky to get a day or two to spend on them) this is the only book you'll ever need. It tells you the basic diagram features (certainly enough to do a few class diagrams at least) which is all you really need. If you do find you need more you can get another book. One tip to note: using the modelling tools (such as Rose) isn't as straighforward as you might expect, so expect to devote some time to this and perhaps get a book/resource to help.

Good Enough
UML is a bit of a bandwagon, however, I found this book useful at university. Sequence diagrams turn up in test-specs and standard docs, so I guess you need an overview of UML.There's enough detail in this book to satisfy most students, developers and test engineers and a lot of stuff you'll never see outside of it's covers.System Architects (those who are UML believers), may require more detail. On the other hand, in a diagram more detail, means less useful.

A great, easy to use and comprehend resource.
It might be relatively old (its third edition was published in 2003), but I personally still use it and recommend it when someone asks me for a book on the subject. It is definitely not the bible for UML, meaning that it does not contain exhaustive examples for every single case that you may need to use UML for, but it's still a great, easy to use and comprehend resource.

The best Pocket Reference and Quick Start for UML
The Best pocket reference for UML. Also, if you consider that UML is supposed to be accessible to ALL stakeholders, it makes sense to learn UML in an uncomplicated way. This book does just that; it teaches the subject well, without overcomplicating it. I've taught the UML to many IT professionals, and "UML Distilled" is always my starting point.

Useful for engineers
This book is useful if you study engineering. Will be needed especially in robotics.

Great book about UML.
Concise, precise, practical. Probably better for people who already know UML and need some reminder time to time (but it is my case) than a guide for ones that know nothing about it.
