A Prophetic Revelation!
I am in awe of this sacred book. You could say it's a historical novel, a tale of prophecy pitted against politics, of a boy growing into his divine calling. It is all these things, and beautifully so. But beyond all that, 'The Lamp of Darkness' is an inspired revelation, opening our eyes to immense Biblical themes, and unfolding wondrous theological concepts, even with echoes for our times. Here are a few:"Pitting fear against fear will not bring us the goal we seek.""The soul is a spark, but sparks do not shine in the bright light of day. As darkness deepens, the soul reveals its hidden light.""Could any of us survive in a world where we receive that which we deserve?... We are all vessels for the light of the Holy One. As we expand mercy in ourselves, it expands in the world."The story unfolds through the eyes of Lev, a shepherd boy with a gift for music. His skills with the kinnor, a type of lyre, bring him in service to the prophets of Israel, thence to the wedding of King Ahab to Jezebel. He bears witness to Jezebel's installation of her heathen cults, to Elijah's famed denouncement of the king with the prophecy that no rain would fall but by his word, and to the Queen's war on the prophets. It's high-stakes high drama and wonderfully executed. I am in awe of this author's gift and prophetic voice, and look forward to the next book in the series.Abdiel LeRoy

Excellent
I would recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in the Bible or the prophet Elijah. The author brings the Bible story to life in a way I never thought possible. I strongly recommend you buy the second book in the series too. While the names of the characters may not seem familiar at times as they are written in their more historical Hebraic way, there is a glossary if you are not sure of the term or name used. This book has really given me a new understanding of the period.

A odd but captivating read
A sort of hobbit like adventure, a bit hard going but interesting. It speeded up as it progressed, an ok read

Slow but thought provoking
A slow book to read but interesting. Some thoughtful images to consider. Unfortunately not enough to encourage me to get the next in the series.

a good read
As a Christian Pastor I came across this book when looking for something to read on holiday and was intrigued as it was classified as Historical fiction and not Christian fiction ( I don’t usually read Christian fiction), but talked of the age of Prophesy. It’s the best work of fiction I have read in a long time and I loved every minute. I mentioned it in my sermon this morning and have had four of my congregation already download it. It was a joy on so many levels, a good story, true to its historical sources, full of insight, and spiritually uplifting. I purposely did not read about the authors until I finished the book and was overjoyed to find it written by Rabbis' Looking forward to your next book

Enlightenment
I choose this book at random for something to read while looking for a new biblical book to read after finishing my previous one, and it has been a great a choice. Thank you for the chance to enjoy this biblical story and understand the people, customs of that time and the places in such a descriptive way. It was a pleasure to read and I was totally engrossed from beginning to end.

Behind the scene view of the Prophets
I really enjoyed reading The Lamp in Darkness. The background knowledge and story telling is superb. You get a real good look inside the times and a behind the scenes view of the times of the prophets. I had recently been contemplating about Elijah passing on the mantle to Elisha and became curious about the various group of 'the sons of the prophets' that enter this event, so I was totally ready and intrigued to read this book. I was entertained and inspired at the same time. Thank you so much for all your studying and writing. I hope a second one is coming soon... as Im sure the prophets can't stay hidden forever...

Enjoyable read
As someone who is interested in Torah related writings, I found this a very good take on prophets in Israel around the time of Elijah. While nigun music not my "cup of tea", I was surprised with the implication that it was closely concerned with prophecy. An enjoyable story.
