If you have an old Iphone laying around and think that you are going to be able to have your device unlocked and just plug this device in and your phone magically work- you're not going to be pleased with this product. It is true that it will work with your device, but not really- it only works when you download and install their app. SO you can only make calls and texts from their app. Its a bit disappointing as you will not be able to use the phone resident apple phone and text apps.Also, they will try to do a hard up-sell to you on their other other services and if you are not careful they will tell you that you will only be able to activate your sim card by signing on to a free trial. They will also try to take your credit card info over the phone to enroll you in a trial of one of these services. Be vigilant and don't fall in to their trap. All in all- it works and my son is able to use the phone to make calls and receive texts, but it really is misleading and not at all like you would think a sim card would work like from one of the major carriers. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have gone this route. But the cost is cheap and I'm not out much when I decide my son has shown he is capable of showing responsibility. Incidentally, I am only using their total free service plan.Update 4/4/2019- had enough of the hard sell tactics and lack of support and brought my son under our family plan. If you have any issues with the setup of FreedomPop on your device, there is no support. If you call for support they are asking for your credit card number to "enroll" you in a special service plan of the day... Hard sell tactics, misleading sales pitches, misleading description of services- the list goes on and on. Cancelled my account and recommend you avoid this service.

FreedomPop has a unique "basic plan," 200min talk and 500 texts, 200mb per month for $0! But if you want more talking time or texts, you can choose other options for cheaper price. But you should be careful when using this one. When you activate your sim, your "default" plan isn't this basic plan. So you must "downgrade" plan on the browser. It's easy to find on a PC, but may not on a smartphone. And another shortcoming is you must use an application produced by Freedompop. As a matter of course it's free to download, but you may feel strange at first.So this MVNO is good for your second phone.

In short, this is a scam based on false advertising. I really wanted to believe in the value of the “free”service and have a phone available to my children for extracurricular activities (texting me when they are done at piano or sports), but when I received the SIM, it would not activate and instead I was redirected to Red Pocket mobile where you need to pay $3.99/mo for the same plan. It seems like a good deal, but all calls appear to need to go through the app and I’m sure the over charges is where the money is made. This is not worth the hassle. I was on hold with customer service for 10 minutes before the automated message came on and told me to leave a message and they’d return my phone call within 48 hours. I’m opting to skip the hassle and just return back to amazon because there is nothing truly accurate about this product.

Took additional money to activate, which didn't work and said technical error code 303.while these initial troubles were not addressable using their phone support they resolved the issue by email. In general this is a free service and works as expected. so keeping that in mind its a good buy. the email support isn't instant like phone support but if you wish that convenience you could pay up for it.

I have had Freedompop for three years now. The service is wonderful and it has literally saved me thousands of dollars. It is so impressive that my wife switched from Straighttalk two years ago. We are both extremely happy Freedompop customers. This company is a hidden gem! We live in Missouri and have wonderful coverage and we have traveled to from Myrtle Beach to Las Vegas; we always have service. The best part is both of our phone bills are $7.99 a month, with data rollover.

This sim required .99 cent activation fee with a credit card. This is a voip company so you need their messenging apps for calls and text. You will not receive call and text without the apps running in the background. If you leave cellular data on, your data will drain even if you do not use the phone. You need to be careful on what you choose when you sign up to avoid hidden charges and watch your data carefully.The pro is that it has good signal and speed. If you have no internet, this company is decent choice because it is free. You can use it in an emergency for making calls. If you want all the options of a phone, then this company is not for you.

Terrible product. First of all they wanted me to pay again at freedompop for the SIM card. Then I found out that they “upgraded” me from the free plan to their “unlimited plan” for $40 without my permission. This service uses VOIP so to make phone calls and texts you have to use the freedompop app, not the regular features of your phone. And customer service? Non-existent. If you call the number and select customer service you get “please refer to our website for answers to common questions... good bye” and it hangs up. Buried in their website I found a chat feature which barely works with slow responses and it appears only one person named “Ray” working there. I wanted to test this service for a parent who doesn’t call or text much and it was a disaster. I threw the SIM card away. At least it was only $0.99

Got this for use in a security camera. Took a bit to get the system to recognize the card but after four tries we finally succeeded. Has worked good since activated, no problems.
