Gift For an Old Strip Squirrel
I gave this to my Dad for his birthday and he absolutely loved it! He was involved in drag racing back in the day (50s to early 70s) and he really enjoyed seeing the old tracks and I think somewhat sad to see what happened to them. He was with the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA) so he had some good stories to tell about some of the tracks as we thumbed through the book. The book did seem a little heavy on the east coast tracks, the smaller ones, but that could just be my bias being from west of the Mississippi. There are some of the old guys still around that could add quite a bit to the history of these places. So if you have an old strip squirrel as a loved one, buy this book, sit down together and enjoy some good stories and some bonding time.

Very interesting read
As an avid gearhead for over 40 years, I have always been fascinated with drag racing. This book brought back many pleasant memories. I have been to some of the tracks in this book, and learned more about them from Lost Drag Strips. I did not think about the fact that so many of these pieces of history are now just a memory, and was glad to see some of those memories preserved in print. I also didn't know so many tracks, both small and large, closed in the 70s. It makes sense now, as the closest track to my childhood home, Cumming Dragway, closed around 1973. I still remember hearing the cars making passes from my house on the last day Cumming Dragway was open. I hope to see a second edition with other track histories. More Please.

Back story and history of great dragracing.
Having been a dragracer in the 60-70's liked reading and remembering places I raced and others I heard about. Second volume now out and third coming I've heard. Looking forward to reading about strips I raced on not yet covered. Really liked the book, read it cover to cover.

I recognize the names of some of these strips from ...
I recognize the names of some of these strips from the 60s. Drag racing has gone from each community having a drag strip to a major business with all the zoning laws, regulations and population growth. We'll never see "run whatcha brung" again. And who can forget being almost able to reach out and touch the cars as they speed by.
