Review: Rock-Solid System – Completely Transformed My RV Experience - I’ve been running a full Victron setup in my RV since 2021, including the MultiPlus inverter/charger, the SmartSolar 100/30 charge controller, the BMV-712 battery monitor, and the Digital MultiControl panel. After years of use across various climates and conditions, I can confidently say this system has been absolutely rock solid. Each component was easy to install and configure, and the integration between devices is seamless. The MultiPlus handles all of my AC needs flawlessly, switching between shore power, generator, and battery without a hiccup. The SmartSolar charge controller keeps my solar system optimized and running efficiently, even on cloudy days. The BMV-712 gives me precise battery monitoring at a glance, and the MultiControl panel makes managing the inverter simple from inside the RV. What I appreciate most is how this system has given me real freedom. I can boondock for days without stress, knowing exactly how my batteries are doing and trusting that the system will just work. Review: Well designed, well made, totally worth it. - Newly installed: It’s clear that someone at this company understands human centered design because there is a lot of thought that has gone into just about every aspect of this device. The shunt was easy to install, and has very clear markings on which side to connect. I was able to put it into a large battery box (see photo). The voltage tap they provide has an actual Ferule crimped on it for inserting into the spring connector on the shunt. This is a detail I have only seen on professional factory equipment for handling vibration connections. It’s exactly the right way to do it. Bravo for this. The display module itself is pretty tight and well designed. The buttons are intuitive and function as you would think they do. My only complaint is that trying to create readable text from 7 segment elements is hard to read. It took me a while to figure out what was being displayed. It would be better with a dot matrix style display. But I get it, cost and all that. The app almost makes up for this, except for the purist in me that doesn’t want a phone when I’m camping. The app is really where this device shines. As a hater of Bluetooth, I was surprised how easy the initial connection was. It basically just connected and worked. The app is quite frankly great in its simplicity. I am particularly fond of how clear and concise the presented information is. It definitely passes the 5 second test for human dashboard consumption. Marvelous. Also, I can actually connect to the device from my house, if I need too. Which is just amazing. Other items of note. The included square bezel is great. The quality of the cabling is good. There is a connector on the back for adding their other display. This company released the protocol documentation as well which is a huge plus. I’ll update the review when I use it more, but this thing is a solid 5 stars for me. SUPER happy to see a well thought out, and well executed device like this. As an embedded software engineer myself this sets the bar for me. Totally worth it.

**Q: I'm a total tech illiterate, does it come with everything one needs to fully install the meter or one has to purchase other things as well? thanks**
A: Hello, C.  As I recall, everything you need is included.  You will have to connect it to your battery bank, mount the shunt nearby and run the included wire from there to the monitor itself.  There is probably a .pdf on the Victron website that has everything you will need to know.  It's a very well made device and worth the higher price.  Best wishes!

**Q: My house batteries are up under my E-350 van, and are therefore exposed to the elements while driving along. OK for the shunt to be down there, too?**
A: There is a RJ-45 connection that is not intended to get wet, so having it in an unprotected location is probably not a good idea, especially if road salt could get to it. If you can bring the battery negative cable into the van, that would be much better, or else use a weatherproof junction box.

**Q: I have two 12v 31-series agm batteries wired in parallel. can anyone provide info on how the negative from the battery should be wired to the shunt?**
A: After the two batteries are connected together, the negative from one of them goes to the shunt, and nothing else. The other side of the shunt goes to the negative bus bar, chassis ground, etc. It's important that no loads or charging devices connect directly to the battery negative, otherwise the flow will not be monitored by the shunt.

**Q: I have just installed a victron 75/15 mppt & would like to install a display that does both 1) display battery level 2) show solar panel live status**
A: The monitor will show current state of charge of the batteries. You can then scroll to the current inbound or outbound power in amps. The number will be plus showing net power from the panels minus current load. I hope that helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality product

Excellent piece of gear for keeping track of your RV batteries. Well designed, built and equally if not more important, the app software is easy to use and integrates nicely with other Victron devices. Note the included 500A shunt has an IP21 rating meaning it is not waterproof and must be mounted in a dry location. As it should be close as possible to the batteries, I mounted our BMV-712 in the battery compartment under the RV entry steps which is partially open to the weather (road below) for ventilation of battery gasses. Given that, I purchased this small Hrensaw water-resistant electrical box (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5X3DJ1Z) to enclose and protect the shunt. Worked like a charm.
