Review: Fast strings, balanced tone and good projection - I'll start with what I like about these strings. The strings wound in metal reach note stability really really quickly. The tension is just right for me. It has an easy action while not feeling sloppy under the fingers. Also the strings are very nice to play with nails, just gliding. The low E string comes with less wire around the lower part making stringing up easier (see in picture 2) The sound quality it very nice (although the G string isn't my favourite). The lower notes have a nice sizzle to the and nice 'n' sweet on the upper strings. Very balanced sound. Things I'm not so keen on!! Apart from the low E string, these strings are a pain to string up. Like slippery eels! The G string can sound a bit tubby sometimes (although that common with most strings). The upper 3 strings take a while to settle. So if you're playing a concert, string up with plenty of time to break them in. Over all they're great strings. Takes some time to set up but it's worth it in my opinion

It's always very interesting to see how big an impact one set of strings can make compared to another on the same guitar, particularly the classical guitar. I'm terms of sound these are impressive to say the least. Warmth, clarity and sustain in the trebles, firm, nutty resonance in the basses. Tremendous volume and just a feeling of assurance. In terms of feel, this may be more difficult to make a recommendation because it's very personal to the player. These are hard tension strings and it's the first time I've experimented with hard tension. All I can say is they are a pleasure to play and I much prefer that slightly firmer feedback from the instrument. I've just moved from Saverez crystal corum normal tension. They're good stings but I was actually struggling with them. Generally too thin I think. I'm really pleased I decided to try these particular D'Addarios. They are certainly somewhat more expensive but for me very much worth it.

**Q: I just want all nylon, don't these come in all nylon and no wound? Can you tell me who makes all nylon tks.**
A: Not that I know of, if the basses weren't wound they would have to be pretty thick in order to be tuned to pitch. I think if it were viable to make the strings all nylon instead of using silver plated wire then they wouldn't be making wound strings. But since you don't see any non wound strings then my guess is it's not possible (viable).

**Q: Do they have a ball end?**
A: No they do not have ball ends. At this time D'addario does not offer them with ball ends.

**Q: Does the D string last longer with this set?**
A: Sure, just use the D string less :)  

Yes I do amuse myself.  Real answer is it’s basically subjective what with different guitars and playing styles. Also depends what you mean by last longer: is your D breaking or just sounding flat sooner. If you’re experiencing a certain string is noticeably short lived then it’s likely your particular guitar. Check the bridge/contact points and smooth out as needed.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good strings but take the time to fit carefully

Bought these (normal tension) for a Yamaha Silent Guitar and the impact on the sound was pretty transformational. That's the good news. The bad news is that they're very slippy and very tricky to fit - especially at the headstock end where the trebles continued to slip out of tune for at least a week after fitting. The novelty of re-tuning after every piece wears pretty thin, pretty quickly. However, they do eventually settle down. The E bass has a loose wound end - D'Addario say this can be fitted either end, but if you choose the bridge (as I did), make absolutely sure the loose wind is not part of the vibrating string. You must lock at the bridge with at least two twists on the wound strings and three on the trebles. It's also a good idea to lock the tags underneath the adjacent strings (Taylor style) as this looks great, eliminates buzzing and guarantees no bridge slippage (see picture). You'll just have to work out your own solution for the headstock, a powered string winder or an extra pair of hands definitely helps - as you need to retain tension as you lock and wind on the string.
