Nice upgrade for newer KitchenAid mixers that no longer come with the spring and washer. You'll have to manually bend the washer to install past the pin and then bend it back. Once installed it does a great job of keeping your dough hook or paddle, whip... nicely in place. Helps to both protect the attachment and the bowl.

This is an inexpensive upgrade that makes a noticeable difference. It is easy to install, less than 2 minutes and it improves the fitment of the mixer attachments on the mixer attachment shaft. The attachments no longer have up and down slop and the spring keeps the attachments in the proper position. If there are dense clumps at the bottom of the mixing bowl, the mixing attachments would rid up the shaft the 3/16" or so of play and not incorporate the ingredients well. We would have to scrape the bottom of the bowl to bring the clumps up to the top and then start mixing again. Now the attachments stay down and do not rid up and down the shaft, providing a more consistent mix without having to stop the mixer, lift the head, scrape the bowl, lower the head and start mixing again. This has been a great addition to our mixer and I wish we would have know about adding the spring to the attachment shaft years ago.

Worked great. Not as beefy as the original spring, but secures the attachments just fine.

The spring and washer, even when fully compressed, were too tall and prevented the attachments from going on the mixer. The spring is 4.5 coils. I trimmed one coil off, leaving 3.5, and then I could attach the dough hook/beater.

I got one for myself and gave the rest to friends and family. It comes in a pack of four and protects the attachment from bouncing around so much in the bowl. I saw a difference noticeably for my paddle and dough hook attachments specifically. They made my KitchenAid less noisy for sure. Getting it on the mixer was a little tricky but you have to separate the rings just the right way for the washer but the spring is super easy. It fits perfectly on all mixers (my mom has a big bowl lift one and I have a standard head tilt) and it works great on both.
