Both are brushless and use the 20v batteries. DCF787: one (1) LED, 1500 in/lb torque, and has a variable speed trigger 2800 RPM and 3200 IPM. DCF887: three (3) LED, 1825 in/lb torque, 3 speed switch 1000/2800/3250 RPM. The 887 is one of DeWalt's latest and best (Dec 2019) impact drivers however I've seen it compared to other brands and even DeWalt models and with extreme/continuous use start overheating and smoking. So keep in mind how you're going to use it. They now have an "Atom" branded line that may be fractionally smaller but doesn't seem to be as strong and durable as either of these.
