A keeper for sure
Awesome genuine soviet shovel. Mine is dated 82 for the head and 79 for the shaft. Took to painting the head an OD green, and stained the wood a tad darker, just personal prefrence. Also ground out a nice tool grind on half of the shovel head, and so far the steel has held up great. Definitely recommend this over the Cold Steel version since they are currently the same price. Also bought the sheath for the Cold Steel and mounted it on my Veshmesok.

It's Berezka not MPL-50
It is not a real MPL-50 shovel, it's the civilian "Berezka" model for camping that is not made from high carbon steel like the original MPL-50 or the Cold Steel. I had the Cold Steel and it is made from better steel then this civi copy.Mine came with a loose and unfinished, ruff handle that requires sanding and finishing.If this was real MPL-50 I would have kept it, but I'd rather get another Cold Steel that is finished, already has sharp edges and is made from high carbon steel.

Cool but Not new at all.
Wow, this shovel was shipped straight from the Ukraine. I really enjoyed the Cyrillic characters on the shipping label. The description said that it was new but that it might have some scratches. This thing Is FAR from new and has numerous dents etc that part is a disappointment!
