With the can opener seated in the base and facing away from you, place the screwdriver in the space between the gear and the right edge of the can opener 2. Turn handle counterclockwise until the handle assembly loosens from the gear. Continue to turn the handle until the handle assembly can be fully removed from the opener. 3. Remove the old gear and place a new gear with a washer on top in the slot. 4. Use the shaft of handle assembly to start the threads into the gear. Continue to turn the handle until the gear is fully threaded onto the assembly. 5. Opening the first can will seat handle assembly into gear.

Wasn't compatible with my Edlund #1
I think everyone in the commercial food business knows how expensive equipment is and how much replacement parts can be as well, so I jumped at the chance to try an aftermarket blade and gear for our Edlund can opener. Unfortunately, it didn't work for us at all; the gear chewed up the rim of the can and the blade left metal shavings all over the edge. As soon as I bought genuine parts, the issue was resolved. Bit of a bummer, but that's just my personal experience, maybe others have had good luck with this product?

Not OEM enough for Edlund.
Does not work well as a Edlund replacement part for size No 1 can opener.Missing “this side up” markings.Make sure new blade installed before changing gear. Spring pressure is enough to break old blade.Update: this gear is thicker and has a slightly larger diameter. The blade is shorter in length, and thicker and than original.

Waste of Money
I'm puzzled by the positive reviews. This did not fit my Edlund #1 can opener. The gear is slightly thicker and slightly larger in diameter than the original Edlund part.

Absolute JUNK!
Will not work to repair a Edlund #1 opener. Just will not work. I own a restaurant and cannot find a decent American Made Product anymore.

Did not work
I bought this product not knowing it was aftermarket neither gear worked with my eduland opener. I went and bought a edlund brand gear and it worked perfect. Learned my lesson

Gears did look a bit rusty so I thought they might not be new but after cleaning and installing they work fine.
