It works for me and my pup because I just wanted the ability to brush him to help remove any dirt on his skin (he LOVES to roll around in whatever interesting smells he finds outside) and any dried dog slobber (he has a big brother who is a drooly mastiff LOL). Anyways, back to the brush - the bristles are very soft (as other people have mentioned. They are perfect for my min pin because he has such short fur (and barely any fur on his belly). Hair must be completely combed out to be free of mats and tangles before using. At first, I though I just had another chew toy for my puppy but that was because she was so very much matted and tangled when we got her. We took her for a haircut to get all the mats and tangles out and now we are able to use this brush to fluff up after combing . She looks great for about a minute then she does her all body shake and she's back to being matted looking but I know her skin got some good brushing.
