What is a Ballast? Ballast is a component within a fly killer, which regulates the current flow from the power supply. A fluorescent lamp will consume too much power and blow up without a Ballast. There are two types of ballast technology, Magnetic Ballasts and Electronic Ballasts. Why we use Magnetic Ballasts over Electronic Ballasts Magnetic Ballasts emits a high frequency flicker which is unnoticeable to the naked eye but proven attractive to flying insects. An independent study carried out in Syms and Goodman of Queen Mary’s College, London looked into the effect of flickering UV light source in attracting flying insects. Their findings show that a flickering UV light source caught 75% of insects in comparison to a fly killer with a constant UV light source. Magnetic ballasts has also been proven to be extremely reliable working in conjunction with fluorescent UV lamps in comparison with an electronic ballast shows to be unreliable with specialist UV lamps. We recommend that UV tubes are changed every 12 months to ensure maximum efficiency.

Excellent, does what it should do
Excellent, does what it should do, and covers a large area. Size wise, it's bigger than it appears in the photos, but it does the job very effectively - everything from vinegar flies to large bluebottles and moths.

Big Bold and very effective. Check the dimensions before you buy because the picture makes it look much smaller than it is.
