Brilliant Workout System And Really Good Read!
Rich Gaspari - 51 Days : No ExcusesFor the uninitiated, Rich was the No. 2 Bodybuilder in the world, second only to Mr Olympia 8 time winner Lee Hanley, from '86-'88 and winning the very first Arnold in 1989....The guy was known as the 'Dragonslayer'; his ability to overcome his genetic limitations and beat opponents that were much more gifted than him is the stuff of legend....How he did this? Plain old dedication, determination and hard work!In April '92 he did what he thought was his last professional magazine cover, having gone into retirement shortly afterwards....Finding his own nutrician company, Gaspari, he didn't stay idol; building a huge customer base and collection of supplements for the health minded....In October '11, he was invited to be on the cover of another magazine, this time one in which the still-fit Rich could show his transformation into a physique near to how he was some 20 years previous....The time frame? 51 days.....This is the workout system that Rich drew up to be able to be on the cover....So.....about the book; each day is a chapter. Each day is either a workout (for either regular person or the hard gainer) or the rest period,. Each day gives you dietary advice. Each day gives you a little mantra.....and each day had a theme on which to hang autobiographical excerpts from Rich's life.In and of itself, that's a fascinating read; his childhood, his initial training, the breaks that he got, training - and living - with Lee Haney, his idea of training , and the highs, and lows, of running his own company....He also gives a little run-through of of the essential supplements for the individual - vitamins, minerals, macronutrients, amino acids etc. quite brief, but a handy little prompt....The workouts? Rich is a big fan of supersets.Hard? Pretty much! Rich's whole plan is to lift heavy, lift hard but keep PERFECT form. Easier said than done. Without perfect form you're not isolating the proper muscles. It's a great little workout. The workouts take you through a variety of angles and equipment requirements, but most things you can replicate at home....So....a workbench is a must, likewise is a variety weight of dumbbells, a barbell or EZ Bar, a pull-up bar and resistance bands with door attachments. For the latter, I have one of those multi-band collections - series of 5 bands of varying strengths - and just attach all the bands to the handles for the most resistance I can get...The workouts are tough! There's some need of gym-based equipment but, with a little bit of 'out of the box' thinking you can get around it. For example, on the decline cable flye's I substituted dumbbell's instead; on cable pull-downs I substituted bent over resistance bands/kneeling pull-down on BullWorker - remember those?lol!So....there's ways around things....For leg workouts I believe I nearly fainted each and every time I did them....for back workouts I felt my lats like never before...my chest ached and ached days after each chest workout...and my bi's and tri's threatened to explode from the massive pump they got.....Oh, and Rich believes in a fair amount of cardio too.So....onto results....In the main, my body stats stayed the same; tape measurements of bi's, shoulders, chest, waist, calves, hips and neck were all the same. Thighs I lost 1/2" per side, and forearms I gained 1/2" per side....Now, I dropped between 3-5 lbs in weight AND my body fat dropped .3%.....meaning a 4% muscle increase overall....4% muscle increase in 51 days? And lose weight? I think that's a good result....

Great book to set you on your way....
If you are a fan of Gaspari, lift weights, or generally looking to be inspired then this book is for you. Like the way it has been broken down into easily maneagable chapters each with a story from his life in order to illustrate to the reader that as he has overcome then so can we (great for dipping into) There are two routines to follow dependant on your goals, a hard gainer for those who are new to weights or struggling to gain size, and a muscle builder for the more experienced (do the hard gainer first then the muscle builder and you get 102 days for the price of 51!) The only gripe is that there are no illustrations or descriptions of how to perform each exercise (but then they can be resrarched on the net for those unfamiliar), plus he tends to overemphasize his own products in the diet sections which are extremely expensive. These minor irritants aside however this is a book to have on your shelf, in your gym bag, etc..., just don't think you are going to be built like Rich at the end of 51 days, but then this is not what the book is about, more it is the means to beginning along the journey to something better...

Well worth the investment!
I was lucky enough to get hold of a pre-release copy of this...Rich Gaspari was one of the top bodybuilders of the 80's and 90's and now runs a successful supplement business. This book is Rich's blueprint for anyone to improve their physique in 51days. It is basically an easy to follow daily workout diet routine for the full 51 days-but we also find out about Rich's life, his training philosophy and his successes and failures along the way.Its definately a challenging routine, containing some of Rich's intense training techniques such as super giant sets-but so it should be to have the desired effects in 51 days! Rich led by example & did it in 51days and so can we!

Very Informative
I liked the information on nutrition and suggested eating regime. The book was full of personal information about the author and his journey into Bodybuilding. This made it a more personal read, not just full of information. I enjoyed the book and would happily recommend it to anybody interested in following a healthy lifestyle.

not bad
Decent enough programme, although it is the same workouts every week. He states in the book that it's important to shake things up and change workouts which contradicts the workout plan he lays out. Diet plan is not great either. Seems to just suggest shakes, probably so people keep buying from his supplement company. However good info on supplements at the end of the book..

Very good for 1st timers
Interesting read BUT as I have dieter down before and done completions to me measuring macros is very important. Gaspari gives you cup measurements NOT weight measurements and also someone with my bodyweight has different calorie requirement then someone smaller than me or bigger than me. It's very generic but it's really good for first timers.

fantastic
fantastic book from a legend wonderful nuggets of advice and a daily food diary to help you understand how a professional eats in more detail than what you see in magazines (the same meals day in, day out) and highlights the need for variety. Also includes lots of life stories delivered in Gaspari's typical enthusiastic manner
