Product description TALVIN SINGH / VARIOUS ARTISTS Soundz Of The Asian Underground (1997 UK 12-track CD album which celebrates that ball of energy which is the Asian Underground. With Talvin taking the lead with his magnificent Jaan as well as other top names; Amar Future Soundz Of India and State Of Bengal. Complete with picture sleeve CIDM1120) .co.uk This CD is an outlet for the loose coalition of remixers, DJs, and studioheads known as the Asian Underground (because of their Asian or Anglo-Asian backgrounds). They all put a distinctly Indian spin on this music, with the dhol drum at the heart of the beat, and all the technology on top. Singh's two tracks are things of joy, but nothing here disappoints, whether the modern film music of A.R. Rahman or the drum'n'bass of State of Bengal. --Chris Nickson EMD

Good range of styles
I picked this up for a couple of quid recently and at that price it's certainly a great buy. I had it on vinyl when it first came out and it was great to re-listen recently. My 'take' on the music: If you like good quality percussive music then this is definately worth a listen. There's various styles from ambient (the exceptional A. R. Raghman's "Mumbai Theme Tune" - a timeless classic) to some excellent quality Drum N Bass such as my favourite "Flight IC 408" by State of Bengal. This is quality music and I really love the Drum N Bass tracks even though I don't listen to this genre of music specifically.... so if you love great percussive music don't let the D 'N' B descriptions put you off.

drum n bass in your face with the asianz
I bought this cd not knowing what to expect from this selection which talvin has presented to us. The opening track was WOW! I had been tryin to get this track for ages ( it featured in the Philips CDRW tv add and it was phat!!) the first few tracks are drum n bass but not hard style. The next few tracks are a selection of more diverse east meets west , and the last few tracks end with a asian/west/funky drum n bass feel. The album is a great buy , and represents the growing talent of asian producers. For those of you who are not sure just listen to Jaan and im sure youll buy the album :o)
