Good idea, but not very well executed!
This does not work well out of the box, if you have a lathe, you can probably make up some improvements to make it work, which I might do in time, but I can also see that having used this I could probably make something just as flexible and universal, but much better in use.The first problem is that the kit as it stands has three legs, and there is no way for them to sit flat and parallel, I am not sure how Laser missed this point, I had to use several washers under the two legs you fasten down to make it sit nice and square and flat on the face of the job... This is a crazy situation and made a difficult setup even harder.Next, the drill guides, they have tiny chrome pins, which you will need to hold to stop them riding up the drill bit or spinning as you drill out your broken stud. These pins are bonded in with glue, and soon as the guides warm up as you use them, the pin will fall out!... Also, a small health and safety point here, having to hold onto something that is within 10 to 15mm from a drill bit is a bit of a daft idea. If they put the grub screws in the legs higher up, you would be able to use them to locate the drill guide and lock it in place... Or if they tapped the holes the handles go in, they could have made it so you could screw in a longer handle to keep your fingers out of the way, with a handle that will not fall out... Simple really. The next problem is that is is a bit daft that they expect a stud to break off above the face, usually they will break off level with the face or even slightly under the face.. If they made an insert for the leg that is going to take the drill guide, with a hardened point on it, it would be easier to use a centre punch to make a dimple in the centre of the broken stud and then use a insert with a fine point protruding from the face, to locate into the punch mark, when then could be used to aline the leg, to lock it down and then replace the insert with the drill guide, and hey presto, the mark one eyeball, would have accurately marked the centre and a small insert could of allowed the leg to be aligned to that..I will probably be turning up some additional tooling on the lathe to make this more useful, as well as modifying the legs so they are all level... But this could all have been done in the factory, and as such this kit is a bit of a fail.If you have a lathe and do not mind making up some modified parts, this can be a useful kit, but otherwise it is not a kit that you could count on to get you out of trouble, which is the whole point.

Gut
