Great homeschooling resource for language arts.
I purchased this book a few weeks ago after the current readers we have been using for a few years are no longer being printed. There are several editions of this book, but based upon reviews and the type of content I prefer for my homeschool to read, I decided to purchase the original instead of the revised McGuffey's.It comes in a very sturdy cover, with nice, sturdy binding, pages that will stand up to wear-and-tear, and classic stories and poems that I consider essential in helping my student to develop strong language arts skills. It contains spelling words, dictation, as well as pronunciation aids in addition to the stories and poems.I look forward to using this in our upcoming school year.

High Quality Reader!
As a homeschooling mother, I just love using McGuffey Readers to educate my children. They are morally clean, and very well written. McGuffey's uses many more words in their stories then other children's readers, teaching more vocabulary and spelling words in general. In essence much higher quality then many of todays readers. I also appreciate that Ruth Beechick has written guides for McGuffey Readers, that can help you use them in educating children, and use them age developmentally appropriately as well.

Love These Books!!!
I love the Original McGuffey's! They are very educational. I will be using this Third Reader as a character building resource with my 9 and 10 year old boys. The Christian content is something you don't find in children's readers these days. Most of the stories have a moral lesson to be learned. I believe this series of books to be well worth the money. They are high quality readers.

Character building reading
I love the stories in this reader. They are engaging and challenging. The vocabulary is advanced and sparked discussion about how language changes over time. As I read the stories for myself I felt not preached to or belittled; but elevated to seek a higher standard of moral excellence. You may want to keep a dictionary handy. Third reader does not mean third grade.

Excellent series.
These book are much better than anything your kids are reading in school. I wish these publishers would reprint some of the other primers available in the 1930's and '40's, because they are much better than the pablum kids are exposed to in school today.

Love this book
What wonderful Christian biblical teaching American children received in the public schools in the 1800s because of this book. Kids in those days were taught right from wrong and were plainly given the Ten Commandments. But now it is offensive to those in power over the curriculum taught even to mention the Ten Commandments or the name of God or the mighty works and wonders our Creator has done. Why should it be offensive to list the Ten Commandments. Don't you think the students would benefit to see in writing--"Thou shall not kill"?
