Cools well
I got this ac to replace a very old unit that was in our home before we bought the house. This unit works great. It is not too loud and cools off our living room/dining room/kitchen. Has a remote and several settings including auto, energy efficient, sleep timer etc. I've had it for almost two months and so far am very happy with it.

Great value for a solid product
Overall I think this is a great unit for the price. Good basic features that work as advertised. Installation could be improved. I live in the midwest where it tends to be hot and humid. During the start of the working from home craze I was working in my non air conditioned sun room. I purchased this unit knowing that with the doors closed to a room with 8 windows for a 12 by 16 space and a vaulted ceiling that it was going to get hot. I shopped around and found this to be the best option for the price. This unit has very basic features and has effectively controlled the temperature in the room so some pretty hot and sunny days. The installation for me was a fairly major job since I had to cut a hole in the sun room and reroute some electrical but the directions were fairly clear on what was required. The rest of the installation instructions were fairly clear to me with one exception. There is definitely an issue with the installation of the shims on the bottom of the unit that tip it back (as mentioned in other reviews). They are too thick and will not allow you to install the unit properly into the sleeve. fortunately they are foam and easy to trim. I would dry fit these without sticking them to the sleeve and cut them with a utility blade to fit. Then pull the backing off and stick them to the unit.

A good buy
The a/c I purchased is an 8300 BTU, though the wall unit for my apartment. It came with plenty of foam and fit in my wall box perfectly. It works great and my only niggle is that the hum of the fan is a bit louder than my previous a/c, but I really don’t notice it much anymore. I’m very happy with it!

Works well on 100 degree days
I bought this AC because I moved into a new apartment that didn't have furnished air conditioning. This was my first experience with a through the wall unit. Installation was quick and easy. It took less than 30 minutes to install but did require two people to perform. It's a heavy unit, coming in at just under 80 pounds, but two people can handle it easily. The remote control works well but requires a direct line of sight to work which isn't an issue in a small apartment. It moves air very well and has kept my apartment cool and at a low humidity, all summer even when the humidity was over 80% and the temperature was at 100 degrees. The display is bright and easy to read and the on-unit controls are easy to use and understand. The filter on my unit sticks a little when taking it out for cleaning but not terribly so. The unit tells you when to clean the filter with a built-in warning light. Cleaning the filter is quick and easy and I use some dish soap, a small brush, and warm water over my kitchen sink. All in all a very good unit for the price. My heating/ cooling bill almost went up by about 80% compared to the winter months but I was expecting that as the building has forced water heating and any AC uses a good amount of electricity. I would recommend the unit to others given my experience with it so far.

Lousy install instructions
First I will say that the unit performs well once installed. Having said that, the install instructions are lousy.Screws to assemble the sleeve take so much force to drive in the heads are likely to strip. No cutout size or template for the sleeve. No instruction as to how deep to mount the sleeve in the wall ("Install the sleeve."). AC unit comes with tapered FOAM shims to insure proper angle. Shims were TOO THICK according to the directions by 1/4". The shim adhesive stuck to the removed paper, meaning the shims had to be installed with spray glue. Once installed, the unit would not slide in on the foam. I had to use hard plastic strips for the unit to slide on until it was in place, then remove the plastic strips. Since the unit is heavier at the front, the foam wedges compress more in the front allowing the unit to slope into the room, contrary to the intent of the wedges. Screws from the sleeve mounting brackets interfered with unit installation. Screws had to be cut off inside for the unit to slide into the sleeve. The finish trim does not reach the wall as there was no instruction on how deep to mount the sleeve. The unit cools nicely but I have not run it long enough to see if water will leak inside due to the negative slope. If it does I will have to remove the unit and make new shims out of plastic or pressure treated wood, and glue them into the sleeve. All in all an installation nightmare.
