I'm 42 and recently have been experiencing nausea from my morning cup of coffee. I had heavily researched my options to include low acid coffees (taste bland) and various filters. Finally, I discovered ceramic filters like this one. I have had it in my cart for months, but because I am cheap- could not bring myself to make the purchase. so when my mesh coffee filter got mangled in the sink and it was time to replace it, I thought, "what the heck?" and went for this one. I anxiously awaited its arrival- it arrived FAST with overnight shipping. first off, it is extremely cute and the aesthetic value cannot be overstated. second, it does, in fact, brew a delicious cup of coffee. I imagine this is what coffee really should taste like- rich, full bodied, without a hint of acid. my stomach is pleased and so is my palate. as for the drawbacks, there are a few. one, it is expensive. second, it is apparently fragile, and cannot be "banged out" to clear the grounds like other types. it must be delicately hand washed each time. for me, it is worth the trade off- but this might be an issue for some. lastly, because of the ceramic composition, it is somewhat cumbersome to brew directly into a ceramic cup. I have a beautiful handmade cup that I brew coffee into- but again, the product is delicate, and must be carefully placed into the cup so neither gets chipped. if youre an old fart like me, and enjoy a delicious cup and have the money to spend, it is well worth it. I would not recommend it for homes with kids or anywhere there might be risk of breakage, at this price, I would probably cry if it broke.

My new go to means for making a cup of coffee. Grind the beans, place the grounds in the filter sitting over a cup, and pour hot water over. Pretty straightforward, and makes a smooth and delicious cup of coffee; dependent upon the quality of beans you use, of course. The filter takes up the least amount of space of the coffee makers I do have, including a French press. The filter is very easy to clean as well. Once the filter has cooled enough to handle, you just dump the grounds, and rinse the filter out. Soap is not recommended, as it could get trapped in the pores, and you’ll end up with a soapy tasting cup of coffee. If you let the grounds sit for a couple hours (if you forget about it as I have done many times), it can begin to stain the ceramic. It still works fine and doesn’t affect the taste, though. After a number of uses the filter drip may slow. You’ll just need to refresh it following the care instructions. The gist is to place the filter in a pot of boiling water to extract any oils that are clogging the filter. It should be good as new after that. I have not broken it, but take care as the filter is a bit fragile, because it’s ceramic.

Este es un problema en general con este tipo de filtros. Con el uso regular tienden a absorber los aceites y partículas del café. Si bien no he tenido problemas con manchas, sí se nota que luego de un par de semanas, el agua ya no fluye bien. De hecho, no termina de pasar toda el agua por el filtro y se queda empozada. De 250 ml de agua, solo llega a pasar 200 ml antes que se quede empozada. En las instrucciones dan la indicación de hervir el filtro en abundante agua, pero esto no soluciona el problema en su totalidad. Creo que está bien para usarla de vez en cuando, pero no para uso diario. Más sencillo es usar un filtro de papel.

yes , you can abandon the filtering paper but I still use paper for saving the washing water.

The design would be amazing if this worked. It is almost there, but the filter is not quite small enough. The filter did capture the coffee grinds which I tested with coarse, medium, and fine, as that is what I had. The water ran through way too quickly so the water was too light for my normal coffee liking. The filter does not drip like in the video, it is a steady stream pouring which is way too fast. It wasn’t as fast as I poured the water in, but way too fast for a decent cup of coffee. You need the hot water to maintain contact with the grinds in order to actually make coffee. After reading the other reviews, I suspect I may have a defective one. Will try out super fine ground and see if that makes a difference. Also I see no point in using a filter as the point was to not use an additional filter. The concept of this is what made me give this 2 stars. If it worked, I would give it 5.

This thing will make the best coffee you've ever had. It'll improve the most basic coffee. However, after months of use it'll start to clog and you will have to boil it in baking soda for 20 minutes to properly clean it.

Looks nice, eliminating grit and grounds. Prefer on light roast 20g / 4 cups
