Vietnam: A War Lost and Won
R**D
Tell it like it is.
As I have Alexa read these, rather pathetic books. I wonder why the grunts feel compelled to write books about their war. This is not such a book.I see why they want to change the past, they are deeply unmanned. They come back home expecting to be regarded as heroes instead they find themselves treated as the worst kind of criminals, baby killers. They remember all the things they have done. Burning children gives the marines post traumatic stress. They are astonished there are still people who do not expect soldiers to commit war crimes. So many pretend the war made them poorly. This is one of the first books I have read that acknowledges not only the disgusting things they did but what their politicians and police did to prevent the people knowing what was going on.

A good read
I have just read this book while on holiday in Vietnam as I wanted to find out about recent history.A very good read only spoilt by the chapters not being linear. You read a chapter covering a period then find that the next chapter does not progress but goes back and tells the story of an earlier or indeed the same period from a different viewpoint. This can lead to repetition. It is almost as if the book is a compilation of several short articles. Still a good read that I recommend.I am just reading the same author's book on the mafia - this one jumps around even more.

A solid read
This was a really good read. If you're looking for a solid overview of the war from the origins to the aftermath this is perfect. It details US involvement and highlights some of the key battles. It also goes into detail about the political decisions made by the key men and also the protest movement back in the US. As said a good solid read without too much heavy detail but enough to give you a total overview of events.

An Okay Historic Read
An okay introduction into one of my lives sadly far too many regional wars.

Vietnam's 30 year war
A good read if ,like me,you watched the war on TV as a child but didn't fully understand what the war was about & it's ramifications to the US & it's people at that time.

Davvero senza infamia e senza lode.

Mucho Detail
An excellent and brief history of the War in Vietnam. Though it lacks references, if one is familiar with the Vietnam conflict in terms of literature on the subject, one knows what Mr. Cawthorne is talking about. It is well-written and factual.
