Tokyo Fish Attack [DVD]

Awesome!
"Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack" is an animated movie based on the manga series "Gyo." The movie begins with Kaori, Erika and Aki on a holiday in Okinawa to celebrate their upcoming graduation. However something strange happens when fish begin coming ashore atop mechanical walkers. When Kaori loses contact with her fiancé Tadashi during a phone call she immediately rushes back to Tokyo to look for him. On the way she befriends a reporter trying to find out the truth behind the walking fish. While I personally love this movie I can appreciate that it's not for everyone. The premise is pretty weird and it gets weirder as the movie progresses. There is also some pretty unsettling Cronenberg-style body horror. Lastly there is some nudity and sexual scenes. As a rule I despise that, but I'm willing to put up with it in this case. Aside from that this is a highly entertaining movie, largely due to the main characters. Kaori in particular is a compelling and likeable main character whose devotion to her fiancé is very touching, and as such I was rooting for her all the way. Some purist fans of the manga may dislike some of the changes the plot makes (for example in the original manga Tadashi is the main character while here it's Kaori). While I respect this view, personally I consider the movie better because of these changes. All in all "Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack" has its flaws but is overall a great movie.

Excellent service.
Typically I like Japanese animation but this particular story left me indifferent.

Great adaption of Junji Ito's classic
A very well made adaption of Junji Ito's horror classic although it does have its flaws there are a couple of role reversals with characters and the art style isn't quite as dark as the manga but generally if you enjoyed reading the manga then you will love the anime but to a lesser extent. One thing that has been bothering me about the release date is why have amazon put the release date back to 1st October but play.com and many other stores have it due for release for 3rd september.

Insane in the (piscine) membrane
Utterly bizarre anime movie in Japanese with English subtitles. For the unitiated like me, this was a freakishly plotted and exploitative horror movie, with one-dimensional characters and a gratuitous sex scene. Humour of the blackest hue abounds throughout the movie - not least when an arrogantly attractive and exceedingly slutty girl becomes a bloated methane-spouting travesty of her former self; much to the delight of her plain and previously mocked friend. If this is your thing then good luck to you, however I think it's safe to say that I won't be troubling this genre again..!

It's just a bad anime and a bad film
I went into this not expecting too much, but with a slight hope due to the involvement of studio Ufotable and the director of Kara no Kyoukai: Mugen Rasen on board, but at the end of the day this film is just bad. The animation is obviously great due to Ufotable's work on it, but the acting feels flat and lifeless, the plot moves at such a pace that it's not possible to empathise with any of the characters when something happens to them, because you simply don't care, and the subtitles are so rife with wonky translations and grammatical errors/spelling mistakes that they become a chore to read.Honestly, the quirky shlock horror premise of this movie is not what ruins it, because I bought this fully expecting that, but aside from featuring many moments which I assume are supposed to come across as scary, all this movie really did was occasionally gross me out. Really the only redeeming factors I can give it are that the animation is great, and I did get a couple chuckles when the movie was being unintentionally funny.I am aware that this movie is based off of a manga, which others have assured me is much better than this anime, but to be honest even if that is the case, it doesn't excuse how horrible this movie is. An anime should be able to stand alone as its own thing, without referring to the source material to explain its shortcomings. Overall just a very poor anime movie, or rather probably the worst anime I've seen. I came to it expecting a little better because it was on an online list of "great anime movies", and had really good production credentials on paper, but to be honest it is just a crappy movie even with the unintentional hilarity aside. Look elsewhere. There's much better anime out there than this.

Best Juni ito adaption so far
This is like a fast paced b-movie horror. good animation, music, fast paced story. better than junji ito collection anime, which had awful animation and was boring and music didn't fit. Uzumaki movie and Tomie unlimited movie is also good.

Holy. Freaking. Crap.
This movie is equally insane, amazing, and engaging. I have absolutely no idea how to start talking about this. Now stop noodling around and just buy it.

Animation is great but story is severely lacking
First of all I have read the entire manga before watching this so I do have a slight bias. This is not an exact adaptation, which makes the latter half of the story very confusing to anyone that has not read the original manga. The characters are changed around for no apparent reason other than to make room for a sex scene. The later parts of the movie have scenes from the manga with no explanation for why or what. Example: you can tell that the scientists arm is gone from how his is clothing is moving but that's about the end of it. (Which has an important scene in the manga)The animation is better than I thought it would be, also this is only in Japanese with English subtitles if that is an important feature for you.In short:I recommend this to anyone that has read the manga, just to have an animated retelling of gyo. If you have not read the manga, I don't think you would like this movie. There are too many confusing elements that are not explained.
