You don’t know you need this, but you do!
As a grow older, there are increasing numbers of tasks I find difficult, slicing bread being a case in point; I can still just about do it, all right, but end up with slices of variable thickness, or even thicker at one end than the other; the great thing about the Maximex is you not only obtain slices of the desired thickness, but can make them thinner than you’d dare normally. I thought my partner would be cross with me for this purchase, as our kitchen is already full of gadgets, but no! he’s fully won over and uses it all the time, and although it does take up a bit of room, it folds up. As for the suction pad, it does work, provided you place the device on a really flat surface.

Doesn't last.
On arrival, it looked good, but had a number of problems:1. The adjustable rest was not secure, it could wobble and change vertical angle depending on the thickness it was adjusted to.2. The blade was not parallel with the rest, leading to tapered cuts.3. The blade angle changes as it rotates.4. The suction cap moves each time it is released, leading to it not gripping the next time it is used.5. After a couple of years of use, the blade has dulled such that it is no longer able to properly cut bread without creating holes in the centre of the bread, and the design of the blade means it can't be sharpened, rendering the slicer useless. No replacement blades available. If you want a slicer that will last only a couple of years, then this is fine, otherwise avoid.

Good enough but could be better.
It works pretty well and cuts my homemade bread without too much effort, for the most part.I do find I need to do a little tilt of the loaf at the very end of a pass, to avoid tearing the slice, but once I got the hang of it, it’s fine.I’m pleased I got it, as slicing a whole loaf to go in the freezer was proving quite the workout. You do have to watch your fingers as there’s no finger guard but I’m fine with that and there are no kids about to use it here. You need to check your work services to be sure you have an area it will stick to or it will be unstable. It needs a very smooth surface a textured laminate will not work too well. I used my induction hob and that worked just fine. Finally, and I realise this is very obvious but it’s super plastic, so there are lots of reasons that it’s not ideal. We’re all the plastic parts wooden, I’d happily have paid a lot more. For what it is, it’s quite pricey but it does the job, I just don’t know how long it will last.

Love it.cuts thick and thin slices.
Only drawback is it’s quite lightweight so doesn’t sit firmly on counter when in use.it does have sticky feet on it so once you’re into the second slice you’ve got a good grip on the situation.cuts great, both thick and thin slices of my homemade bread.very sharp blade.altogether,I am very happy with my purchase.

Cuts well to the desired thickness.
Don’t be tempted to put your hands anywhere near the cutting blade. It is really razor sharp and will cut you to the bone. It will however cut a whole loaf very easily and guickly. The whole loaf has to be on its side to clear the shaft of the handle and you get a whole slice of bread.

came needing work
It was sent in two pieces, what wasn't in pieces was so tight that it would not move, I had to risk breaking the plastic to force the two pieces together, and slacken off the bolt holding the slide together so that the thicknesser would slide. After that it works well, but I should not have had to do it.

You get what you pay for…
The blade I got had a large burr on it which had to be remove. It may be made of stainless steel but the metal seems to be quite soft, so will need frequent sharpening. No finger guard or pusher. So you have to use your hand. So you’re going to be extra careful not to slice off the tip of your thumb.May be useful for off grid living. Otherwise if you value your fingers, I’d give it a miss (pun intended).

A real slice of luck finding this
After reading some of the reviews , I took a chance and ordered this product which arrived today. I have tried it and find the suction pad works perfectly, holding the slicer rigidly in place and no effort is required when slicing bread using the turning handle. It is prefect for slicing home made bread (the reason for the purchase), I have no hesitation recommending this product, if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
