Avoids sequel-itis
It is a rare sequel that actually improves on the original. The two biggest problems with Jumper were the relatively minimal development of Millie's character and the sometimes awkward dialogue. Both issues have been addressed in Reflex. While the first novel focused on David, Reflex shines the spotlight on Millie giving her a huge chunk of the book. David and Millie have made a life together - David is an occasional agent for the American government while Millie is a practicing therapist. A powerful and wealthy individual decides to co-op David for his own ends and after he is kidnapped, Millie must apply her considerable intellect to finding and rescuing her husband. This could have been a fairly basic story with David kept out of action until Millie came to the rescue. Instead, Gould gives us a tight story of a caged man who will not be defeated and his wife who will stop at nothing to set him free. The same attention to detail with regard to the capabilities and limitations of a teleporter that Gould showed in the first novel is brought even more sharply into focus in the sequel. The lengths that David's captors are willing to go to keep him on a leash are truly frightening and presented in an unflinchingly brutal manner. At the same time, Millie takes her first faltering steps into the life of a Jumper and shows real ingenuity in dealing with an opponent that knows all too well how to deal with someone who can teleport.Jumper was a novel that started off as an escapist fantasy, turned into a love story, and eventually into a James Bond novel. With Superpowers. Reflex is much more focused and maintains the same feel throughout the story.

Great Story, but
This author is very talented. And this particular story line is very interesting. The story itself is so good that I want to hear it over and over in spite of how much I hate profanity and sexual content in books. It sends that the author sees no problem with using horrible language to tell a story. As for the sexual content, it limits his audience or corrupts young minds. It’s irresponsible. In this story, David is captured/kidnapped and Millie hunts for him to save him.

Second one does not disappoint
I really liked the first book, but I was weary of the second book. What could the author do to Davy, that will be able to motivate a full plot...Well, the author found a way!

You can go anywhere instantly, who wouldn’t want that?
Well maybe you wouldn’t want that power if some sinister entity tried to make you do their bidding. The power to go anywhere on earth instantly can be held in check by those diabolical enough to try and seize that power for themselves. Yet the David fights to the very end. How do you fight the kind of overwhelming faceless evil? With help of course.Once again the impossible seems possible. The writing isn’t over complicated yet clearly makes you examine what power can drive people to do. The unflinching exposure of what people with power will do if they think they can get away with it. At times the bone chilling barbaric nature of humanity seems bleak. Yet the love one person has for another can make the darkness fade.

I jumped right into Reflex, great read ;-)
A friend turned me on to Gould's book "Wildside" (fantastic) and I immediately ran out and bought "Jumper" and "Reflex". I recommend YOU do the same ;-)"Reflex" picks up where "Jumper" left off, 10 years down the road. The main character and his (now) wife have been accustomed to Davy's special talents over the last decade, but trouble sweeps swiftly into their lives. I won't give the story away, but it will have you hooked in no time! Great continued character building, a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and an ending that leaves you hoping there will be another sequel!Classic sci-fi, written in our time. Great stuff. Go buy it. All of it.

Good sequel to Jumper
Good sequel to Jumper; the parts concerning the negative conditioning process do tend to go on more than is really interesting but serve their purpose in the sequel to this sequel (Impulse). These books are neither science fiction nor fantasy, and seem intended for older teens or "young adults" (which probably makes them most interesting to younger teens). They are well edited and the characterizations are well done. Very easy reading, nothing intellectually challenging and no background requirements for the reader. The only thing which I find lacking is a better, more scientifically credible explanation of the jump, though the description of the "stationary jump" is very good. Excellent recreational reading.

About what you'd expect
A decent followup to Jumper, though set farther in the characters' future than I'd expected. Where I think Jumper was aimed at a young adult audience, this deals with decidedly adult characters and emotions that are mature and by no means angsty. I think it's interesting to see the changes that have happened, but it also feels, at times, as though there's a lot of history that the reader somehow missed out on.The writing is also not quite as strong and feels hurried at times. The dialog and internal thoughts especially fall prey to this. The action scenes are well done, however, and I have to admit, I was turning pages pretty quickly towards the end. The best part of the book, however, was re-watching someone learn about "jumping", discovering that again through their eyes. It made me realize how that had made the first book so much fun.In all, Reflex could have benefited from some editing, but it's not so lengthy that it's unenjoyable. If you liked Jumper, you will enjoy parts of Reflex a great deal as well. And we may even see a third book; the edning leaves that possibility very open.

Millie should run the world
Continuation of the first book. I really appreciated as much as I did with the first one, this time we have more of Millie in the sequel. And Millie is a whole mood, she made me laugh so much! Not only that, she's a strong and independent woman! If it wasn't her, well spoilers, things would be really different. Can't wait to the next boom, Impulse. 10/10

This was a tremendous, if at times disturbing, ...
This was a tremendous, if at times disturbing, thriller. When I had first heard the concept, I didn't think it would be believable, trapping a teleporter but it really worked.

Reflex by Steven Gould
Reflex is what I would consider an ideal sequel thanks to being able to stand on its own without its predecessor and by progressing the story of characters we know in a new and unexpected direction. Continuing on from 1992's Jumper, Reflex sets itself 10 years after Davy's pursuit of revenge. Now married to Millie and working for the CIA alongside Brian Cox, Davy now lives a happy life free from his alcoholic father. That is until he is kidnapped by an organisation that wants to utilise his power and turn him into a weapon.Millie must now search for her missing husband as he plans his escape from his ruthless captors.Reflex is at times a difficult read, its a dark and unrelenting view of torture and human experimentation. But acting as an undercurrent through all of this is an adult and non-cliché portrayal of love and marriage keeping the main characters determined to find each other. Filled with spectacular characters (including one of my personal favourite villains in fiction in the form of Hyacinth Pope) and extremely well written. Reflex is everything a sequel should be, its a brilliant and gripping adult thriller that any fan of sci-fi, crime thrillers or the original novel should read.

Storia interessante e coinvolgente. L'autore riesce a raccontare una storia che tieni incollati alle pagine facendo pero' anche riflettere sulle motivazioni e sulle sensazini dei personaggi.consiglio tutta la serieRichiede una buona conoscenza dell'inglese per poter leggere il libro
