Decent winch (after modifications)
I've owned and replaced multiple winches on my bass boat trailers over the years. Since the years are adding up (on me!), I installed this winch on my RangerTrail. I removed the Reese TowPower 74329. The drum on this one has a larger diameter, necessitating moving it forward to clear. I had to weld in, and paint a piece of steel angle so both forward bolts could catch. Installation was a snap after that. The gear alignment on "slow" speed was poor - they only contacted each other by about a third of the stacked tooth width. After bending the "shift lock" judiciously, i have 100% contact on low gear and 66% or more on high gear. There's close to a MM of slop in the crank bushings that can't be easily corrected. After that, the winch is a beast on ramps that are steep, or where power-loading isn't possible. Strap is adequate, hook is very good, handle and controls are fine as well. FWIW, my boat is probably 1900# as she sits.

Heavy Duty
Replaced the winch on my boat trailer. Seems heavy duty and cranked the boat up without issue. We'll see how it holds up

May Require Drilling.
I ordered this winch to replace a failing 1400 lb “Dutton” brand winch on my boat trailer. As seen in the photos, this winch is considerably larger than the winch it is replacing. The boat weighs around 2000 lbs as it sits on the trailer and I think the original 1400 lb winch was a bit underrated for the task at hand, and is likely the reason it was failing.Due to the larger size, a couple of mounting holes needed to be drilled. New hole locations were marked easily with a set of transfer punches. Fortunately, the winch mounting plate is aluminum on my trailer and a fresh set of drill bits cut through the thick aluminum like butter.I used the original mounting hardware. The center of the strap is offset by a little, maybe 3/8” or so. If this becomes a problem, I will drill a new center hole on the mounting plate to correct the offset. This is a preliminary review only. The installation is covered, I will add comments regarding use of this winch at a later date.

Solid winch at a good price
The only negative is there is no free-spool position on the pawl. Probably the liberal safety patrol making sure we don't hurt ourselves. Finish is good. You can shift speeds/ratios without moving the handle. It arrived with a broken handle grip. The seller replaced the handle promptly with no fuss. Great service. Some have complained about the strap. It is seat belt type of material. Probably plenty strong enough. I'll be sure to update this immediately if there is a problem with it. I need to retrieve the boat at low tide to challenge it. I have a 24 foot WA with 100 gallons of gas so it will be challenged. By the way, the last winch was a 2,000 lbs Fulton that lasted more than 10 years in salt water.

Well built.
I thought I was getting a faster winch since it is dual speed but it didn’t achieve what I hoped. Still too slow.

Come along and ride on a winch-tastic voyage
Same model as the one on the trailer currently, lasted 18 years, hope the same thing happens again. Not sure why all the other new ones are so expensive.
