This is not your typical leadership book!
This is not the standard, "run of the mill" books on leadership. Whereas many authors on leadership regurgitate what they have learned from others onto the pages, General Halstead correlates her principles with specific stories from her West Point days and from her experiences as one of the top ranking leaders in the US Army. She is a retired Brigadier General in the Army and knows what it takes to be a great leader. She was the second class of females to graduate from West Point, and the first female to graduate from a military college to reach General rank. She DID NOT have the easiest path in a typically male dominated position. She is only 5'1," so her ability to reach the rank of General had little to do with her physical strength. It was her unique leadership style, and her determination and discipline to always be her best that allowed her to excel in areas that no one had ever traveled before. She also demanded the best of everyone she led as well.I think it is one, if not the most, entertaining and influential books on leadership I have ever read. It will have you laughing on one page and then crying on the next. If you would take the time to read it, there is no doubt that it will put you on the right path to becoming a great leader. This book IS NOT just for business leaders. It can easily be applied to parents, coaches, teachers, etc.

Triumphs and Challenges of an Extraordinary Leader - From a Military Perspective
I loved this book! After hear Becky Halstead interviewed, I ordered the book. It is not only a great leadership handbook, but it also carries the critical message that leadership is an inside job. In describing her Five Simple Truths about leadership and her Thirty Leadership Principles for Daily Living and Leading, she provides a road map for living life with a bigger impact. I love the philosophy behind these truths and principles and the stories are incredible examples of each of them. What I especially respected was the humility with which Becky shares her accomplishments. She is so forthcoming with her mistakes, regrets and lessons learned that we really gain an insight into the character that allowed her to overcome the odds and achieve the rank of Brigadier General.Having "grown up" in business in the corporate world, I found many parallels in our experiences trying to succeed without role models to follow. Also, I have to adopt the term "mentors and tormentors" as being an accurate description of many of my bosses too!For anyone who aspires to improving as a leader, this book will challenge you and entertain you and provide you with a better understanding of just what it takes in terms of commitment and perseverance. And to Becky I say: "Well done good and faithful servant to our nation."

Required Reading for Military Leaders of All Ranks
BG(ret) Halstead's book powerfully reiterates the obvious attributes necessary for leading, that we all take for granted. The content is universal in its target audience. Everyone from a young high school freshman to a retired General Officer can relate and learn from the basis of this literary work. Most of us feel guilty that we take so much for granted when reading this material. You feel BG (Ret) Halstead is sitting next to you candidly explaining her experiences with directness, but no form of arrogance what-so-ever. I honestly feel guilty I have chosen to ignore the obvious, but she gives me faith that I have time to correct my deficiencies. I just need to start now. This book was written with us in mind. A definite must and mandatory read for young officers and young enlisted soldiers. We all benefit!

Awesome book and author! Should be required reading for all officers.
Was delighted to see her book come out. She is a really neat person to meet and hear speak. For the past couple of years she has been a speaker at the Washington State Women Veteran's Conference and she is very popular at these conferences. If you are having a rough time and then attend one of her lectures, she can inspire you and take you over the hump without you even realizing it.Her book reflects her training, experience and the type of leader she is. It should be required reading for all officers and even congress!! If there were more Becky's in high level leadership positions, things would be a lot better off.Do yourself a favor and buy this book, read it and it will make a difference in your way of thinking.

Must read
Everyone should read this book. I attended her seminar and it was inspiring. I read the book and use her advice on a daily basis. It helps on so many levels as long as you are ready to look at yourself honestly. You don’t have to please everyone, you have to stay true t yourself and you don’t need to lower your standards.

Great Book on Leadership from a True Leader
Becky Halstead is a true leader. This book is a testament to her leadership and is a excellent primer for any people leader in corporate America. It's well written and relateable to any level of leadership. I purchased 10 of these books for the managers under and around me and have had excellent feedback from the manager with just 1 year experience to the tenured manager with 18 years in a people leader role. There are too many books out there on Leadership - this book is a standout and a must have.

Great read
I really enjoyed reading this book. There isn’t a lot of jargon or words like synergy that you’d find in a traditional book on business leadership. It’s just plain old-fashioned what-worked-for-me experiences.

General a.D.
