This book did what I needed it to do
Klaus Hinrichsen has put together a quick summation of the episodes for the first 8 seasons of NCIS in this book, titled NAVY NCIS (English). Presumably he also has a version in German. In the last year my husband and I have become huge fans of NCIS, spending evenings watching the reruns that play on SLEUTH or the USA Network and eagerly awaiting the latest broadcasts of the first run episodes. The frustrating thing for us has been watching the episodes out of order, because there are so many continuing story lines that it is difficult to follow some of the multi-episode story arcs.My husband resolved that issue by buying DVD sets of the first 4 seasons so we are slowly working our way through those. I did not realize he had done so, however, when I came across this book and bought it. Even with the DVD's, I'm glad I did because I can easily look up episodes and refresh our memories about upcoming or past events.Yes, I am completely aware that there is a fan wiki-site for NCIS, however, it can be cumbersome to have to look up specific episodes on the fan wiki-site. This little book is absolutely perfect to keep by the sofa as a reference when we need it.The author has a disclaimer at the front of the book saying that he researched various sites to get the material for this book, and he unconsciously might have copied a line verbatim from one or the other of his sources. Since some of his sources are sites with NCIS quotes or with Jethro Gibbs' rules, my original assumption was that he lifted material verbatim from these sites-- therefore I was charmed on a particularly lengthy quote when the author noted that he may not have it completely correct despite listening to it several times. At 115 pages and $17.90, I might tend to think this book was overpriced, especially since it contains no new material but rather information readily obtained from many online sites. However, I also noticed that it was published by a print on demand publisher, and I realize that they probably charged the author quite a bit for printing the book, hence the price. So here's my in-a-nutshell-review-- if you want a handy, couch potato reference guide to the plots of the episodes in the first 8 seasons of NCIS, then you can't go wrong with this book. It is much more accessible than any of the online episode guides. However, if you are looking for more details, such as about guest stars, supporting characters and speculation about future episodes or about how Gibbs gets his boats out of the basement, you will not find them in this book. This book is just the facts, and only the very bare ones.

not what it seems
This book was not what it seemed, the description said "dvd" , there were no dvd's, the info in the book came from Wikipedia as the credits stated. The title also stated it covered seasons 1-9, it didn't. I would not recommend this book to anyone that's not a die hard NCIS fan, because that's the only reason I'm keeping it! Really disappointed!

(ALMOST) EVERYTHING FOR THE BONA FIDE NCIS FAN
For years I had been looking for a book - ANY book - on the NCIS TV show and was excited to come across this one on Amazon.com!Even though this book is not affiliated with either CBS, Paramount or Donald Bellesario - and it is the English translation from the book originally written in German - it is still the most comprehensive guide to date of the NCIS series. The info is based on articles from magazines, newspaper articles and Wikipedia. The pros:It gives a detailed Premise of the NCIS TV show, detailing highlights from the early years to the present (Season 8).It has a complete synopsis of every episode from Seasons 1-8, as well as the Episode Number, Air Date (in both USA and Germany) and the Writer and Director of each episode. Underneath each synopsis are memorable dialogs from the characters. However, the later synopses seem to be more detailed than the ones from the earlier seasons. It also provides a summary of highlights from each Season before listing the episodes for that Season. It also includes a complete biographical sketch of each regular NCIS team member, as well as a listing of recurring cast members and the names of the actors/actresses who played them. The cons:It does not include the biographical sketches of the actors who played the characters, which - as an NCIS fan - I and others would have found interesting. There are no photographs or stills from the show, except a single B&W picture of Mark Harmon on the cover. The typeface on the biographies and dialogs is made to look like is was typed on an old, faded typewriter, and - as such - is rather difficult to read.Since the book was originally written in German and translated to English, there are a few awkward sentences here and there. However, all that being said, this is still the most detailed book you will find for NCIS and one I would highly recommend.

NOT a fan of THIS book!
the book has NO photos and is written in such a strange font that it is hard to read!!! wish I had looked at a sample of the text before I bought it. It basically reads as the script from the show... BORING! NOT a fan of THIS book!

Helpful, but not great
It is, as another reviewer wrote, a nice thing to be able to glance through all the episodes in print, all in one place. And because of that, I'm glad that I bought it. Positives are: One page summaries of each character, a listing of all of Gibbs' rules, and salient clips of dialog for many episodes.Having said that, I wish that CBS would publish an official guide after Season X is over - one with photographs, behind the scenes stuff, interviews with actors and writers, etc. Fans have been filling in the gaps with a number of websites and books like this one, which was written by a fan from Germany. All things said, I am glad to have it.

Very nice concise guide book
This is a really well done guide to keep next to you especially if you're like me and like to watch the reruns on USA network. Sure I have all the DVDs but sometimes it's fun to see if USA tosses out random episodes or what. Rather than keep looking up eps on my phone and running the battery down, it's fun to find them in this book. I like the character bios given and really, the only thing I would change is the font used for the bios that looks like an old-fashioned typewriter wrote it. It's just not real easy on the eyes but I did know that going in since someone else mentioned it another review, just stating it's the only thing that could be considered a drawback. In my opinion it still deserves 5 stars, great job!

What a disappointment
I really expected more out of this than what it was. I wish it would have been more honestly written about.

Not as described
This book only covered series 1-8 and not 1-9 as described on the ad and the cover of the book. Still it was cheap even for the 1-8 book so kept it - but beware you may not always get what you think you have ordered!

Incorrectly discribed
Although the book had an outer cover saying it was Seasons 1 - 9, the inner title said Seasons 1 - 8. The content of the book stopped at the end of Season 8. In other words a new outer cover was placed on the original book. Also a lot of the content uses that broken typewriter font that is not easy to read. There is very little about each character. The book mainly gives a synopsis of each episode. I applied for a refund on the grounds of misrepresentation. I believe I could have gone to Trading Standards.
