Finally
I love this series and its great thats it finally got a release in the UK.I usually buy region 1 discs but this is better than the region 1 release because its got 8 episodes and is only £12.I only watch anime subtitled so this is based on the Japanese version. The opening and ending have english credits and disc 1 also includes a clean opening and closing. The subtitles are yellow and easy to read. When Light writes in the Death Note it is translated and signs are too so there are no problems and its also cheap so there is no excuse for not owning these dvds!

Compulsive viewing
Death Note is the first anime series that I have seen that I have read the manga for beforehand and I must say that in my view, from what I have seen here the series has the potential to be just as good if not better. This first volume of the series contains the first eight episodes of this series about a brilliantly intelligent boy (Light Yagami) who finds a Death Note, a notebook belonging to a Death God that will kill anyone whose name is written in the book. Light uses the Death Note to rid the world of evil but his actions draw the attention of the genius detective known only as L and the game begins.I am really enjoying reading the manga of this series and this adaptation is a great attempt at bringing it to the screen with some very good animation, a brilliantly evocative score and some above average voice acting. If the series has a flaw it is that it is slightly over the top in places and for some reason the first few episodes are somewhat lacklustre but the series soon picks up and becomes thoroughly engrossing. Anyone who loves the manga of this series will also love this anime but I would also recommend it to any fan of anime in general.

Death Note is a real gem
When people talk about Viz media and Shonen Jump you will find that Naruto and Bleach take up most of the attention and although these are two trully great series (naruto epescially) Death note is in fact far superior. The storyline, characters, animation and music are all truly superb and rarely falter from exceptional. Although for me personally the series does take a slight "dip" in the middle where the storyline becomes a little confusing and not as intense, this should not deter you from buying it. It is a real gem and both anime fans and new comers to the genre will really enjoy this. The only real problem i had was how short the series was. 37 episodes complete death note and for me this isnt enough when i really enjoy an anime series. However this does mean that there are no dreaded fillers and the action and tempo is constantly high paced. Death Note defintely deserves as much credit as other shonen jump titles.

Best anime ever! Yay L!
I am a huge anime fan, but nothing compares to this. It is unusual for a anime (and manga) series, as although it has supernatural elements, it is as much a crime drama. Some people side with the self-righteous student genius Light, whereas others people take the side of the genius, and unique, detective L. All the character have very strong and well developed personalties, to the extent of shouting at the tv screen, or indeed at friends. Later characters, near and mello are also fantastic, so its hard not to get attached to them. If you enjoyed franchises like full-metal alchemist and bleach, then this is well worth watching. In my opinion, death note clears the board with them.

Not to be missed
I watched the fansub and i have to say it's on of the best anime out therethe basic story with minimum spoilers, yagami light finds a notebook that when you write someones name in it they die of a heart attack. Pretty soon a death god appears (Shikigami, they call it death god in the manga for some reason)and tells light it's up to him to do what he wants with the death note, in a crazy style he starts killing all the criminals in the hope of creating the perfect world, the police are baffled at why criminals are dying until "L" the infamous detective who's never failed at a case comes along....there are 37 episodes i beleive and written really wellin my top 5 animes with Haibane Renmei, Golden Boy, NHK and tmohs

Exciting, thrilling & just pure awesomeness
Death Note has it all.It will get your blood pumping on so many levels and will leave you with many intriguing questions (don't worry, they will be answered).Animation: 9/10That's just ONE of Death Note's strong sides. Fluid movements with exciting angles and editing.Sound fx: 10/10Great, great & great. They really came through on this section! The whole series is packed with QUALITY.The voices are in my opinion perfectly cast.Music: 10/10Some find it repetative, but I simply love it. It has some thrilling orchestral songs that will send chills running down your spine.Story: 9/10I won't spoil that much of it. In short:It's a bout a young man named Yagami Light who finds a notebook called "the Death Note". A shinigami named Ryuk (death god) had dropped it intentionally from the realm of death gods simply because he was bored.Anyone who's name is written in the Death Note will die. Either by a heart attack within 40 seconds or by the cause written down if you choose to do so.The story follows Yagami Light and how he "might" choose to use the book.Yeah... Awesome...Death Note is an intelligent and amazing anime, and people who doesn't even like anime will enjoy it.(I showed it to my girlfriend and my brother who both liked it and found it very exciting)This DVD: 10/10Great menus & awesome design.Buy it! It's totally worth it!
