Assuming you mean the Cateye Volt 400 xc, in which case, yes this light has the same fitting as my Cateye Sync front light.

Is this compatible with the catetye volt500xc? just wondering if i just detach the bar bracket but it's not clear.

If the mount on the light is the same as on the volt 800 and 1300, then yes it would be. I imagine that cateye use the same mount for all the volt series but you would need to check
