Oyster Mushroom Growing Kit - Premium Edition

I purchased this for my child for Christmas. You have to order e spawn (free) online and it gets shipped quickly to your own. I gave this to my son for Christmas, we received the spawn a few days later. My son, who is 13, did everything by himself. At first, we were sure if the spawn was okay because we never had any experience with growing mushrooms. It's our first time. Luckily, the imaginary farmer has excellent customer service and they are so helpful. My son kept it in a cool place with no light for a while and sure enough, we started seeing some fuzzy growth. He has kept it in his room in indirect sunlight and they have been growing crazy! He is so excited and constantly brings down his mushrooms to show us and says how he loves his kit. I would totally buy again! It is easy enough for a 13 year old to do all by theirselves, if they are responsible and will follow directions & they truly do grow. It's very neat to see how they are growing daily! He can't wait for me to make a soup with them. This is a great gift for any children interested in growing their own things. Since we live in Alaska and it's winter, it has provided a way for him to grow indoors. This kit would make a great gift for anyone, really. Everyone we tell about it is interested. 5 stars, totally recommend!

Extremely disappointed with this buy, not because of quality but because of timing! I ordered this to arrive in time for Mother's Day only to find out that the actual mycelium (the mushroom spawn) has to be ordered separately through their company. For free, of course, because they provide the code in the box, but what is the point of me rush shipping this to be a gift when I have to order the most important part by itself? Also doesn't come with the actual plastic bag to grow the mushrooms in. I'm a reasonable person who hardly gets upset in reviews, but this was beyond warranted. I'm so disappointed I won't be able to give this to my grandma for Mother's Day. Honestly. Sad.

easy to set up, new idea to me

I purchased this kit over the others because even though it costs more; I thought it came with mushroom spawn AND a voucher for more. The how-to instruction videos on their website show the kit coming with spawn; but it doesn't so I am kind of disappointed.If you don't care that the spawn has to be ordered separately; then this seems to be a kit made of high quality materials suitable for your needs.

This worked out great for us. I don't like eating shrooms at all, but I think they are interesting, and my husband was more than happy to eat the product this morning! We got enough for two 8" saute pans-ful. Sauteed one in butter, the other is in a paper sack in the fridge, pre-pan. The grow process did take a bit longer than it should - I think I left the block in the dark for too long. After 18 days there was plenty of mycelium but no pinheads were showing. I put it out in the light and within 3 days there were pinheads. Those formed beautiful shrooms in a week. They are so clean and fresh. I'll try for a second flush now. P.S. we did not wait for the mushrooms to get as large as shown in the picture. There was mushroom spore dust all over my kitchen counter, which prompted me to harvest.I think there were some conflicting instructions between the printout and the video that were a little confusing. There are lots of steps, for first-timers. I can't remember exactly what points now, but maybe someone should check those against each other. By the time I watched the video, I was well under way with the printout. I just followed the printout and a gardener's instinct, and it worked out fine.

Bought this as a gift and find out you have to continue to contact them thru some special code number to start the mushrooms. How lame. A mushroom kit implies it's all ready to go. The intended recipient didn't even bother. Save your money or find anot her mushroom kit.

This was a gift. My husband plans to get the growing medium together once vacation is over.

My God the steps to get this thing up and running are a pain. I bought a mushroom kit once at Trader Joes and it was very simple. Get one of those. I'm not saying this one doesn't produce but man the aggravation
