Japanese Style Hand Saw - Kataba Single Edge Hand Saw with 10 inch Blade

Definitely puts the "Rapid" in rapid/panel/pull/Japanese saw, whatever you like to call it. I actually have to watch my material to make sure I don't cut clean through and put a nick in the piece I am working on. Repairing a chair using 3/8 oak dowels I cut through it on one pull, kinda surprised me. My only warning is the teeth are aggressive enough you might scuff the finish if do a perpendicular cut level with the surface.

Like most home wood workers, I have all kinds of power and hand tools that can perform similar tasks. I always find myself going to this saw for quick end cut-offs , evening board length, and a whole myriad quick but important jobs. I love the saw, I love the price. If I can a good replacement blade for a good price, I'll be in heaven.

It's my first Japanese saw so i can only compare it to my regular-toothed saws with normal grip-type handles.This looks more like a samurai sword than a saw making the temptation to whack something irresistible. Refrain. Its blade is very sharp.On whole, i found the saw easier to use than regular saws and it really does seem to cut faster, especially with wood trim. The samarai handle might be a little gimmicky but the rest of it feels like a solid tool for the price.So, is the design really superior? I think so. Regardless, it works, it's cheap and it's shiny.

What made Japanese cars effective is what tyhis saw is alabout. Design, materials, construction all designed to do the job. The Japanese saw is designed to one thing and it does it better than any I know. I bought it with a specific task in mind. It worked perfectly.
