Four beautiful little wooden puzzles in an attractive wooden box. Art work is such a welcome relief from the ever-present Disney type art so common for this age group. The puzzle set would make a nice add on to a gift of the book itself.The DIY activity is required because the puzzles are paper on thin wood - balsa wood or something similar - and separating the pieces the first time is a bit of a challenge. Most of the pieces had little bits of wood sticking out rather than perfectly clean crisp edges. Because the puzzle will be worked by a toddler, the pieces need to have the edges smoothed off before the first use. An emery board nail file is just right for rubbing off the little bits of wood that didn't separate completely cleanly and also helps the pieces fit together just a little less tightly. The other repair I had to make was to re-glue some bits of the paper picture to the wooden pieces. There were a few spots in which the glue had not really attached the picture adequately. A drop of white glue did the trick. Both fixes were simple and the puzzles are likely to hold up well enough to be passed down to this child's own children and grandchildren. Very pleased with being able to buy such beautiful pieces.
