Great tasting protein whey
Disclosure: I received a discount against this product from the supplier in return for this impartial review. There are many opinions on whether protein shakes are of any benefit as a supplement to exercise, backed by science, bro-science and annecdotal evidence. From my own point of view I find that a daily protein shake improves muscle recovery from my daily gym routine. I've been doing this for some time and find that I genuinely benefit and also notice a difference when I don't have the shakes.Which brings us on to this Organic Sweet Whey Protein from Proteinvital. It stands to reason that if you're drinking a shake each day then you probably want it to be as pure and healthy as possible. This is certified organic and comes from the milk of free to roam, grass fed cows and is 100% from German and EU agriculture. It is unflavoured - something I'm not used to - but makes a pleasant tasting drink when mixed with milk. I've never had a taste for protein shakes made with water, preferring to get the extra calcium and protein from mixing with milk. It has 77% protein per 100g serving. It's packaged in a cardboard tube, which is a much neater solution than the usual bags that protein powder comes in. They take up less bench space and they're much easier to serve out of. The instructions, for the most part, are in German. The pack suggests 1 part powder to 8 parts water, but I'm using one 60g scoop in about 250ml of milk and it seems to be the same consistency as my usual protein shakes. The powder mixes well in a standard shaker, with no lumps or grittiness present. Being unflavoured is a slight advantage as you can use it almost undetected in smoothies and recipes when you want to boost the protein levels. Protein pancakes for breakfast? No problem! The popular fitness 'guru' The Body Coach uses protein powder in a lot of his Lean in 15 recipes, and this product would be an ideal candidate to use if you're following his program. So to sum up, it's a nice and pure protein supplement that tastes good and has a variety of uses. Ideal if you want to use it for muscle recovery, or just if you want to increase your protein intake on a diet plan.
