You can shape your nails well and only need a quick rub round with a glass file to finish your manicure. I like how I am able to trim my toenails properly with the added advantage it will not cut your toenails too short if used properly according to instruction.One thing I do like about the design of this particular nail clipper is that the designer Tom Pellereau has designed the nail clipper catches those dreaded toenail clippings which in the past would have jumped easily to the other side of the room, only to be found when I stood on them! They were really helpful and sent me a replacement straight away! My new S-Clipper works exactly how I expected, slicing cleanly through the nail without it pinging away. It really is a clever design.From looking at some of the other reviews here I guess some other people have had a similar problem to me, they must have had a bad batch of clippers. On the whole, I don't use it now. Because it works like scissors, it can only cut a nail if you tilt it at a 45 degree angle to the digit. It does avoid nails flying across the room but an actual pair of scissors is more convenient for more purposes. It's also really big. And because it's very sharp and the leverage is so great, it makes one rather nervous of slicing off something that you would rather have kept. In any case, it's not what I really wanted. This is a very conventional pair of clippers in that it pretends your nail is straight, with no curve. Having said this, the clipper will go through anything, so if you have really thick nails and you have trouble using a conventional clipper, then this item will help you. It's better to start cutting slightly further up the nail than you normally would or they seem to cut very very close to a point where you wouldn't normally cut to right on the point of the nail meeting skin leaving a sore finger. Once you understand that they are extremely good and cut easily so you just need to take a little more care when cutting. Instead of being a flat-across blade like most clippers that painfully flatten curved nails as you cut them, it shears along, one point at a time, like scissors. But it also behaves like ordinary clippers with a bottom section that pushes end-of-finger skin out of the way, and does not have sharp points like scissors. It is especially helpful when used to cut someone else's fingernails. You can start on one side and squeeze the handles, but not start cutting, and ask the person if they sense any pain. If not, then I have found it safe to slowly squeeze the handles together to cut.
