50% failure rate?
I bought two of these units through Amazon at the same time from two different suppliers, hoping that one would serve as a future spare. The two turned out to be identical unbranded units though (so far as I could tell) indistinguishable from the Philips original. The first one I installed was faulty: the tracking worm drive was out of mesh and was impossible to adjust - so the unit got trashed. The second one was fine. Since my GBP500 CD6000 player is now restored to service I'm not complaining - and in the hope of making sure I can keep it that way I'm buying another of these gadgets while they're still available. Or perhaps I should make that two...

Marantz laser replacement
Sorted out a skipping problem on my old but very good marantz cd player, only issue is you have to resolder six wires,I would happily pay the difference to have the wires already on.The positive is they are colour coded and if you download the instructions off internet, type in Dr Ian Clarke and he has a picture guide with instructions on how to do it.Took me around 30 minutes, but next one would be around 15 minutes.Anyone attempting to do the fitting you need a soldering pen(the ones that run on cigarette fuel)the wiresare delicate.I de soldered the wires so they would go straight back on in the same place.Anyone with a cd player skipping this is a quick fix.

Good seller
I've ordered two for repairing my old Marantz CD67SE player. The seller made the shipment arrived that was faster than my expectation, Good job! One's with Philips marking on the FPC of the mechanism, another has no such marking. Tried to use one of them to replace the bad laser unit of my player, it is electrically working on my system, however, the magnet head near the top of the rotating assembly does not fit well with the round clamp on top of the CD drive, i.e. they cannot attracted in good position to hold and center the disc well and causes the disc vibrating during rotating. They are not working well on my CD67SE.Seller is good, however, I cannot order more things from them, they stop to provide service to my location-HongKong, so SAD 😢

Problems sorted
Marantz CD63 cured after years of no use and not reading CDs. 20mins disassemble and 10 mins soldering old cable and all problems are now sorted. My old HiFi equipment is now up and running in the back room and sounding better than ever.

It works. I repaired an old Marantz cd player ...
It works. I repaired an old Marantz cd player rather than scrap it and buy new. There are step by step guides on the web. The soldering of the connectors is a bit fiddly but otherwise the whole thing is straightforwards.
