This is attached to my baby bass boat to hold hooks while I'm trying on fluorocarbon line.
Can't tell you much about using this for fly tying. At 70 years old, my fingers are not as nimble as they once were. The best knot to use on fluorocarbon line feels like it requires three hands. I am able to tie this knot much easier with the hook clamped in this device. The mounting clamp allows the device to be mounted in almost any position.

Sturdy vice! Got it as a cheap vice I could use to do demos with! Has held up well so far.

The product is not sturdy. There is a constant adjustment that needs to be made. It was inexpensive but still overpaid.

Does not hold the hook very well. No instructions were included. Very cheap. Not a good quality for tying flies.
