This shirt from the WarbirdShirtsTM collection features the Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft. Developed by Lockheed in the late 1950s, the propeller-driven Orion was designed for anti-submarine warfare and entered service with the United States Navy in 1962. During the Vietnam War the P-3 was used to blockade Viet Cong supply routes; there are unconfirmed rumors that one shot down a North Vietnamese MiG with Zuni missiles. Orions have been exported to Japan, Australia, Brazil, and Iran (before the 1979 revolution), and remains active with the US Navy to this day. Over six hundred were produced.
