Makes the study of light and color fun and unforgettable Features highly efficient embossed Holographic Optical Elements Used for the direct viewing and analysis of spectra from different gas tubes and other light sources Spectrum produced from our gratings is the brightest possible with a minimum of distracting visual noise Great for overhead projector or 35mm slide projectors

Works as described for really cheap.
I work with patent applications, particularly in optics technology. It is important to be able to explain diffracting light, splitting beams, blocking beams, and so on to a wide variety of audiences (e.g., lawyers, judges, and juries that may have a hard time understanding the detailed workings of a high-tech optical device). A simple, inexpensive demonstration tool like this can help disambiguate functional mechanisms in mere seconds. Works as intended with my laser pointer.

quetion
I am not sure how accurate this item is in displaying the spectrum. It does refract the light but I see little difference between light sources. As a learning tool for small children it would be great. For the price it is a good buy for a simple teaching tool, but to note the changes in the spectrum of a light source it just does not cut it.

Great little science tool.
Great little pocket carry item for basic science experiments with light refraction.

Incorrect Description
Item image & description are inaccurate. Grating is 1000 lines/inch, NOT 13500 lines/inch as advertised. Wrong item was sent twice.

Shockingly small
It is in a cardboard frame, about 2” x 2” total size. Actually grating is about 1”sq. Came with creases in the frame. Disappointment.

Not 13,500 lines/in but more like half that
How do you give three stars to a diffraction grating on a photographic slide?? Well, if you order one expecting to get 13,500 lines (or circular holes) per linear inch, you may be disappointed. If, on the other hand, you are looking for entertainment, it works just great. Mine had about 250 per mm, or 6000 per inch. The difference among the 1000, 500, and this one is about half as much each step in dispersion as you move from first to last.

Diffraction Grating
Whle I currently lack a proper setup (adjustable slits, standard light source, etc.) the grating does appear to function well. It splits up "white" light into a visible spectrum.
