The Best
If I could, I'd give this knife 6 stars. I researched this knife extensively before purchasing, and watched all the youtube videos. The A1 Destruction Test video cinched it for me. Now that I've got one, and had a chance to test it, all I can say is that every positive review was right on the money. I've been into blades for a long time and I've never held a finer knife in my hand. The laminated VG-10 steel is awesome. Shaving sharp out of the box and easy to maintain. Sharpening might take a little practice if you've never had a knife with a convex grind, but once you get the hang of it its easy. I can't say enough about the blade. This knife will cut, slice, slash and stab anything you could throw at it and ask for more. The knife itself is approximately the same size as a full size Kabar, with the blade slightly shorter but MUCH thicker and the knife heavier. One of the only complaints I've ever heard about this knife is that some people with large hands find the handle a little on the short side. I can see that, however, the handle fits my US-medium/large sized hand perfectly. The kraton handle isn't pretty but it is functional and handles well with wet or gloved hands. The zytel sheath is functional but unexceptional. I will be having a custom leather sheath made for it. This knife is already legendary in European military circles, and I predict it will be in the US Military eventually too. (I first heard of this knife from a US Marine who had used one in Iraq & Afghanistan and said it was bulletproof through extremely hard use in all weather & conditions). Marine grunts know knives. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman I spend a lot of time in the woods, everywhere from the swamps of the South Carolina low country to 10,000+ feet up in the Rockies. I own knives from Kabar, ESEE, Swamp Rat, Buck, Bark River, SOG, Cold Steel, Kershaw, Gerber, Blackhawk, Spyderco etc. I know it's a cliche, but in the case of the Fallkniven A1 it's true, if I could only have one knife it would be this one. Get one, you won't regret spending the money, its a superb knife that'll last a lifetime. I just need to figure out which one of my sons to leave it to when I'm gone. UPDATE: I just put this knife through a brutal work weekend on my hunting property. It performed beautifully. After cutting and chopping for 2 days there was no noticeable decrease in performance. After a few swipes through a Smith's sharpener I was shaving hair off my arm. I really can't say enough about this blade. There is no better mid-size survival knife than the A1. It's expensive, but if you spend a lot of time in the woods, and have to depend on your knife, it'll be money VERY well spent.

Very Good knife.
Nice piece of kit, good knife for multi-purpose Survival or camping, holds an edge well not quite as well as S 30V but for the size and price good value.

Top Notch Perfomance & Quality equal Perfection
The Fallkniven A1 is the best mid-size to large survival knife(6"-8") pound for pound in my opinion. Living in the northwest, it's very wet a lot of the time. So even though I love my carbon steel knives, they just don't work for me with all the rain, salt, and humidity here. I've tried all sorts of coated knives, but I still get rust on the exposed cutting edge. And the coatings eventually wear off. The Fallkniven A1 has a laminated stainless steel blade, its truly truly razor sharp, and I don't have to worry about constant maintenance. It has nearly a 1/4" thick blade which gives it awesome chopping and wood splitting abilities. You should feel very comfortable using this camping, fishing, in the back country, jungle, wherever. Go over to Youtube and be amazed with all of the reviews, and crazy tests shown. The Kraton handle wraps around a full tang, and it's excellent for handling in gloves or mitts. Also retains a good grip when wet from rain or blood for you hunters out there. The biggest decision to make in my opinion is not to buy the knife. It's should you get the Zytel sheath, or the leather sheath version? I like the Zytel version due to the aforementioned environmental issues I have. It drains fast, very light weight, low profile and tough as nails. With that said, I will probably buy a leather sheath for it eventually. There are a lot of sheath makers making excellent leather and kydex sheaths specifically for this knife, so it made sense for me to get the Zytel first and order a leather sheath later. So google sheaths if that's part of your decision. I'm sold on Fallkniven knives quality and performance. I started with the F1, and have gone on to purchase the S1, WM1 and of course the A1.

THICK!
Personally I need the blade, of any fixed blade knife, to be at least a 1/4" thick for me to trust it. Several of the other knives that I have bought, that cost much more than this one, have blades that flex quite a bit. Yes, I understand metallurgy, so I am aware that we can argue the longevity and usefulness of a high carbon thin blade, versus a thick one and then throw in the alloy blades and case hardening versus through hardening as well, just to make things more confusing, but I'll stick to my OPINION of this knife. As stated, I love the 1/4" thick blade. It it high carbon and holds an edge very well. If this were the only knife I had ever owned, I'd call it fantastic, however, if I am going to go over a 5" blade length, it would be because I expect to do more chopping, and for that, this knife is a little light. Now do not confuse the weight with it's strength, because I cannot bend it, and I tried. I want things to break at home, not in the field. This knife will out live cockroaches and suck up anything that you throw at it. The sheath is not too tight and not too loose, so you don't have to use the button strap to keep it secure, even upside down, nor do you pull off your pack or belt trying to pull it out. Being that it is 7" long, it requires more dexterity to use for delicate tasks, and to offset that, I believe it was made a little lighter, but that limits it on heavier, chopping type activities. I do have a few 5 incher's that weigh a fair amount more, but all in all, this is a great knife, looks great, firm yet soft no slip grip, unbreakable, holds an edge very well, and a very functional sheath. Despite any hint of criticism, this a recommended and bullet proof knife, that will last you forever.

The blade is thick enough to be able to handle batoning (I have yet to test this) and it has a very good weight that feels very
I spent 10 years in the Army as a grunt, and over those years I've used many different field knives i.e. Seal 2000, Kabar, Gerber, etc. All have served their purpose and all were very well worth their money. I decided to do some research after hearing about the Fallkniven A1 from some of the guys at work. I've read dozens of reviews and watched many videos on youtube that support the claims of my fellow grunts. Upon receiving it I noticed how the attention to detail and how handsome the blade looked. It is a very simple design, yet it exudes quality. The blade is thick enough to be able to handle batoning (I have yet to test this) and it has a very good weight that feels very balanced in your hand. It feels a little forward heavy which I like because it will help with cutting and hacking. The steel is VG-10 sandwiched in between two stainless steel slabs. The VG10 is a very high quality steel with great edge retention. Overall, I believe that this blade is worth every penny, and it has earned all the praise that it gets.

great knife, worth every penny!
This is by far one of the best all around production fixed blade knives I have owned and used by far, and that is saying something as I currently collect and own over 300+ fixed blades ranging from antique, vintage and current production/semi production and custom fixed blade knives. I own two of these A1's, one in this rubber wrapped handle and another in its custom scaled version. The blade length and grind makes it good for all around use from cutting down small tree limbs to food prep without having to worry about rust too much and it holds its edge for a very good amount of time, I purchased this in late 2014, now june of 2020 I have yet to sharpen it and it still has its factory edge. Though I only use this knife to chop down firewood once or twice a month or when ever i feel like grilling out in the backyard, most of the use this knife has seen was in the kitchen whenever I feel like using a different knife other than the off the shelf kitchen knives. Overall, this knife fits the bill of an all around knife with a good combination of edge retention, toughness and corrosion resistance.

Great knife, not so great sheath.
I bought this knife a little over a month ago, and after a week of use with this tool in the Florida wilderness, I feel I can now write a decent summary of my likes and dislikes. First impressions after unboxing this is that the knife felt really solid. It has some serious weight to it thanks to its thick, full tang construction. The knife feels great being held, almost like an extension of my hand. Weight is slightly increased to the front of the blade to aid in chopping tasks as well as getting that "bite" before batoning. Speaking of batoning, this thing really does well at the task at hand. It's shape combined with its thickness make splitting wood much easier than other comparable blades that will remain anonymous. In all honesty, this tool excelled in pretty much every task I threw at it during my outing, from stripping layers of wood for a walking stick, splitting open a sabal palm to extract the heart, slashing through vines/sawgrass/cattails, processing small game(not really recommended with such a large knife, but it did just fine), and notching wooden anchors for snares. For this knife's size, it really does surprisingly well in small cutting applications. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? Zero complaints with the knife itself, but its sheath(Zytel) is another story. It really doesn't match the quality of the knife it comes with! It feels clunky, cheap, isn't very appealing to the eyes, and lacks functionality. It only comes with one mounting option, which is a large belt loop that tends to slide around on my belt. The interior locking mechanism for the knife is dependant on the knife's finger guard being completely intact, but after roughly a month of removing and stowing the knife in it's sheath, I can see small wear beginning to occur on the finger guard. I'm pretty sure that a year from now that guard will have been worn down sufficiently from the holster's locking mechanism to make the locking mechanism useless...All in all, I decided to chuck the old sheath that came with this knife and invest in a custom made sheath. Kind of disappointing to have such a quality tool come with such a piece of crap sidekick, but I guess I didn't pay 200 for a sheath. Would I recommend this piece of kit to someone? Absolutely, but you might want to invest another 50-100 for a good sheath!

it did not disappoint. It is very well designed and well made
If you are contemplating buying the Fallkniven A1, you've likely already researched it. This knife is as described. I purchased this knife without having handled one prior. Upon receipt, it did not disappoint. It is very well designed and well made. A light stropping out of the box and it was shaving sharp. Good balance and a great handle. I own a number of survival knives, both production and custom. This is the best production survival knife I've owned to date. It cuts and chops with ease and holds its edge exceedingly well. It is superior to some of the custom survival knives on the market and can be had for considerably less money. Being a production knife means that it will be taken out to the field and used instead of being left behind safely nestled at home in a drawer. In this age of cheaply made, mass produced goods, this knife stands out as an excellent value for the money. I'm very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend the seller, Roost Sports, for an excellent product and excellent service.
