With a hardness of 58-61, VG-1 holds a good edge. It's a strong premium steel that won't disappoint. You'll get years of good performance out of the CS Master Hunter and at a good price point. Compare to the Fallkniven F1 in 3G laminate steel. **Q: Is this knife flat grind or hollow grind?** A: Flat ground. No hollow grind at all. Tapers to the edge. Great knife! **Q: Is it made in USA? thanks** A: no it is made in Japan, BUT so are GREAT blades out of SEKI city. Think of it like a mini samurai sword, it is made in three layers of steels, those why its called San Mai III. This knife is just plain great for the money you can pay $300 for one just like it made in the USA but it is still going to be the same just different steels. It is also very thick and very sharp. I would think it could shave bone to slivers if you wanted to. Cold Steel makes great HIGH end knives and then ok lesser ones. That why I stick to their high end blades anything with the VG1 in my opinion is a bit harder than vg10 steel and holds an edge better too. It is what is in the middle layer of this blade.
