easy to erect
I have bought two of these bins for the 'garden' part of our land. They are similar to the ones that I have used before so I know that they work and how they work. The timber is sturdy and very easy to slot together - the only work involved was finding a flat area on which to erect them. They are best positioned with a bit of space all round - just enough to walk round is about right - this will mean that they heat up evenly and you will be able to load, and also turn, the rotting compost evenly. The slats make it so much easier to empty the bin - when the compost is ready - simply remove the top slats and transfer the, not fully rotted, top layer into the next bin - and then remove lower the slats to whatever level you want in order to make the well rotted bottom layer of compost fully accessible.Having done this - the process starts all over again with the advantage of a head start with the first layer of your second batch being already partially rotted. We have now ordered and received a pair of the larger sized bins for the 'working' part of our land and are in the prosses of erecting them, these two bins will have to work much harder than the smaller ones but I know from experience that we will, in time, reap the benefit. One criticism that I have heard leveled at wooden compost bins is "and what about rats?"I never put any food in any of my bins in spite of what we are urged to do by some advisers, all of that goes in the green recycling bucket - I only use properly prepared green and brown garden waste, I can honestly say that I have never had rats in my compost bins. I can also say that we have found beautiful slow worms making themselves at home and dining on slugs and worms in the depth of the bins. as a wild-life enthusiast I am very happy to make them welcome.I can recommend these Lacewing Wooden Compost Bins for their build quality - practicality - natural appearance - wild-life friendly nature - and ease of erection needing no tools, which at our age (both in our 80s )is a blessing - all that is needed just a flat bit of land.

Well made, value for money!
I ordered two of these for use at my allotment. They are surprisingly heavy (so if you are not built like Arnie you might need a hand moving the package they arrive in!). They slot together easily but there are no instructions. As another reviewer said, if you have the picture to hand, it is immediately obvious where the four narrow pieces go, but takes a minute without. I chose these because the timber is guaranteed against rot for 15 years. I looked at the other popular wooden composter with the removable slats but it said nothing about the timber being guaranteed. The slot together system should mean that as the wood expands with moisture that the fit becomes even tighter and more solid. The only problem will be emptying it, and as yet, I cannot think of a way round this problem. It will be very difficult to dig the compost out and I shall probably have to get the ladders out. I think this means that you do need to have at least two bins, one full of rotted down compost to dig out and use, and one in the process of rotting down. What you really want is easy access to the well rotted stuff at the bottom of the bin, and this is the reason that I have deducted a star. However, I think they are very solid bins and very good value for money.

Good but not fool-proof
This basic, no frills, sturdy, inexpensive compost bin - plus its green cover which I also ordered - met my expectations well and looks good tucked away in a corner of the garden. Delivery was fast and, when I asked for two slats that were broken (one on delivery and one during assembly) to be replaced, the supplier agreed & dispatched them immediately. It took me a while to work out that two of the four narrow slats were for the top and the other two for the bottom - exactly as shown in the picture on amazon... but I didn't have the picture with me in the garden! - but this probably says more about my limited IQ and competence as a DIYer than about the product & its lack of assembly instructions.I've still not worked out the best way of getting compost out of this bin, as it seems that I'll need to dismantle the whole bin to get at the 'fastest ripening' compost at the bottom, but as that's some years down the road I'm not wasting too much of my limited brain power worrying about it. Perhaps, when the time comes, I'll realise (amazon.co.UK wants me to spell this as 'realize' like amazon.com would, but I don't think I'll be shot for not obeying; this is the our Queen's Jubilee Year after all) that I should have ordered the slightly more expensive version with individually removable slats from someone else...

Good
My son put it together for me, so it has been put into use so that I can use compost from my first bin. So necessary with 1\3 acre garden. Thank you

Simple and does the job.
This item slotted together very easily (with the help of a rubber mallet) and once complete formed a very sturdy box that should last a fair while. The product does not come with instructions but then this is a simple design and if you are not sure where the 4 smaller slats go a look at the product photo above will put you right. My only gripe was that this product was delivered wrapped only in a bin liner, with most of it having been ripped off during transit. There was slight "knock" damage to a slat but it was not anything that you would notice once assembled and certainly nothing that would affect the ability of the product to do its job... Do note however that this product weights more than it would first appear so take that into consideration when planning for the delivery. All in all this was well worth the price and I am considering purchasing another one so whilst one is filling the other can be composting.
