Avoid this product
FYI this is the first Amazon product I review. I review this product given I cannot remember ever having to deal with such a useless product. If I could give it zero stars I would have. I looked at this product (the IRIScan express) and the Pentax DSmobile 600 Scanner. I first purchased the IRIScan Express given it appears to have a more robust software bundle while having similar hardware to the DSmobile scanner. What a big mistake! I own a Windows XP computer and the software installation was extremely difficult (and I am a fairly technical guy). After 3 attempts, I finally got the software to properly install. My next issue was the quality and speed of the scanner. The highest quality setting does not produce a very high quality image and it is sloooooooooow. Also, there is no option to scan multiple pages into PDF or any other type of multipage format (PDF does not appear to be supported). This was a big issue for me as I scan multipage documents. Finally, connecting the scanner after disconnecting it was also a challenge (I had to reboot my computer to get the scanner recognized). Eventually I got frustrated from dealing with all these issues and returned the product. I got the Pentax scanner and it simply works!!!!! The Pentax works like a charm - quality is great and the scanner is EXTREMELY easy to setup and use. Do not waste your time and money on this IRIScan express piece of junk! The reason the Pentax has so many positive reviews is because it works!!

Outstanding OCR software but scanner is slow
Worth the price for the software alone.Installation was normal for a Mac.Scanner rated at 2 sheets/min but my experience is 1 sheet per min.OCR software is accurate and usable on any image; I photographed a book page with my camera and the software recognized it.Software will also recognize and translate bar codes.Manual is nearly useless and the help file needs improvement - making the learning curve unnecessarily steep.I'd still buy it again.

IRIScan Express 2 (MAC)
Finally a real portable/travel scanner for MAC OS X. Nothing powerful as no duplex (copying both side in one pass). Its small foot space and no need to have/use a clunky AC adapter makes it convenient to take when traveling. Good to great software included. Worth the price and even better when on sale or with rebate. Can be a memory hog if scanning too much.

Disappointed in the IRIScan
Very spotty performance on photos. Left very large white blotches that had nothing to do with dust. Ended up having to purchase a large Epson flatbed scanner.

Love it!
The only problem I have with this is that it is sometimes hard to get the page aligned straight. A good software program adjusts for this though.

Terrible product, useless support
If you are tempted, like I was, by the low cost and small size, keep looking. This device doesn't provide built-in scanning technology for the Mac ("Twain Driver"), so you can't use applications like Image Capture to scan directly into iPhoto or Evernote or other applications. You can only use their proprietary software and either send the scanned document as an email or save it to a file. This may not sound like much of a drawback, but if you intend to scan a lot of documents, this quickly gets out of hand.Another drawback is that the applications they provide are just terrible. It has an app called "Iriscan 2 button manager," which is used to initiate scanning. It has no preferences capability, so if you want to save files as JPG, you have to select the JPG dropdown in the save dialog for EVERY SCAN YOU DO. It is time consuming and tedious.Lastly, their tech support is useless. The support part of their website is incredibly poorly designed, and there is no search capability. the FAQs have dumb answers. and if you want to contact them, you have to fill out a long form, which I did, and never got any response. So, keep looking people :(
