The Fashion King Maker
Here we have a very interesting documentary about the fashion world’s greatest ‘PR’ Percy Savage, he has been called the PR’s PR. Percy was in France when Christian Dior introduced his new look in 1947. He associated with a close knit community of artists where he was introduced to the top haute couturiers of the day. He designed scarfs for Balenciaga, Hermes, Lanvin and Dior. In 1951 he moved to Lanvin and eventually became the first PR person at a fashion house. From Lanvin he moved to Nina Ricci. He introduced Yves Saint Laurent to Christian Dior and help Laurent create his global ‘Rive Gauche’ label that became a fashion phenomenon. He was a visionary and could see what was happening in London in the swinging 60’s and became a key international promoter of British fashion creating fashion exhibitions in London in the 1970’s that would later become London Fashion Week. He was also the first person to create the concept of the Fashion Video. There are contributions from Mary Quant, Wendy Dagworthy, Zandra Rhodes, Hubert de Givenchy, Yuki, Suzy Menkes and Freddie Fox. Christian Dior even named their Eau Sauvage fragrance after him. Sadly no longer with us, but he was and remains an iconic visionary figure in the world of fashion.
