Great read! Perfect for teenage boys!
It's really nice to find a YA novel that focuses much more on interesting characters and the fascinating relationship dynamics between peers - rather than the usual angsty love triangle (roll eyes). This book was a great, fast read and would especially appeal to teenage boys, I think. I love how each of the characters had unique voices - and how the author was able to make me care for them - despite the fact the the lines between "good" and "evil" had become a bit blurred and you learn things about some characters that should make you recoil in horror - but somehow, Whibley makes them so "human" that you care about them and find it hard to judge blindly. There are some descriptions of violence but it is all in keeping with the storyline and not gratuitous at all. I think my favourite character was Juno - for some reason, I kept seeing him as a young, teenage version of Agent Zero from the Wolverine movies! :-) Overall, a really enjoyable read!

Captivating book with no language
Wow. This is one of the coolest books I've read this year. I mean, whoa. Hooked from the first page and the thought of putting it down for a single moment was painful. Where to even begin? The main character, Matt was such a believable and well crafted character. I loved his sense of humor, wit and sarcasm. There was so much action, excitement and mystery that fully kept my attention. One of the best things? No language. Highly recommend for readers who enjoy action, thrillers, and crime stories. It won't disappoint. Can't wait to get the second book in the series!!

An excellent read!
A prank gone wrong... ending in chaos which, of course, leads to disastrous consequences (well, for Matt). So many questions... so many theories... so many moments.Whoa... I never expected THAT (not saying more because spoilers!) but I loved that twist. Cannot wait to read more! With every chapter, I became addicted, wanting more and more. What if everything you have been told and taught was a lie? And then you were used by a higher power? This makes an interesting read! And then it ended like that, I need to read more!Full of lies, deception, doubts, conspiracies, training, surprises and a twist.Perfect for readers of middle grade novels/mystery.

Outstanding!!!
I was invited to read this book by the author for free but because of my own lack of tech skills I couldn't download it. Twice! Then Mr. Whibley offered to send me a coupon via Amazon to purchase the book. Again through my own fault I couldn't find it. However because of reading The Dean Curse Chronicles I knew I had to read this book. I purchased it and it was a great investment. This book is an exciting read that lets you imagine yourself into the lead character Matt. I found excuses to sneak away so I could read another page. I won't rehash what the book is about. You can read the description yourself. I am a Steven Whibley fan and I can honestly say his books won't let you down. I can't wait for other installments.

Interesting quick read
Interesting read not sure of the target audience is I suspect the young and naive who are still 10 feet tall and bullet proof like I was before I was drafted for the Viet Nam war before working for three letter entities and knowing the real pain of getting shot and beaten up. The book flowed well and was a real quick read.

Looking forward to book 2
Purchased this book on a recommendation (paperback version). My kids (pre-teen and teen) both read the book as soon as it arrived and loved it. When I finally got around to start reading the book many months later, my teen saw me reading and decided to take it off my hands so she could read it a second time. I didn't have to wait long though as she read it over two days and loved it just as much as the first time. I also read it very quickly as the story is very engaging - especially the second half of the book - and it keeps you guessing until the end. There is a lot of fighting in the book, but it's not over the top or gratuitous, and it actually makes sense. This book will definitely remain in our collection for years to come.My kids keep asking when book 2 will come out as they can't wait to hear what's next for Matt Cambridge. Well, Mr. Whibley, what's next? Where's book 2??

Supervision required for younger readers
Well written and drew me in. The violence was somehow appropriate, yet it was odd that I felt that way - I don't like gratuitous violence. Maybe the appropriateness came because the consequences of the violence fit the actions. For instance: people didn't get hits that would cause a broken leg and get up and keep going as if nothing happened - they would get a broken leg. As with most stories, you need to suspend disbelief a little (or a lot) but I want to read the next book, assuming it's coming.

Fascinating and well told
Steven tells his story well and writes a real page turner. I read it in one sitting. This is definitely an age group book but as a grandfather who likes to check out what my grandkids read before giving them book, I was rewardingly entertained. My chief criticism was that the protagonist is quite unlikeable at the start of the book and I had to get past that. This was overpowered by the curiosity created by the plot itself. As the narrative moves on the protagonist's more likeable nature is revealed.I deem the book a suitable gift to my grandkids.
