## Description

Big dreams, a shared passion—on the ice, they call it love. After suffering a humiliating loss at the Grand Prix Final, Japan's number one skater, Yuri Katsuki, is ready to hang up his skates for good. Taking time off from competition, he re-evaluates himself and his passion, only to return home with no medals, zero confidence, and no reason to return to the ice. That is, until Victor Nikiforov, his idol and five-time gold medal champion, appears with a surprising offer—he wants to be Yuri's new coach! But this news isn't sitting well with others in the skating world, and Yuri must push himself to prove that he's worthy of Victor's attention—starting by facing Russia's rising star, Yuri Plisetsky. With new routines, the aid of his family and friends, and Victor's undying support, Yuri will discover more about himself and his feelings within. With Victor close by his side, Yuri will find the true meaning of victory! Disc 2 - Yuri!!! on Ice The Complete Series

Review: Beautiful, emotional, suspenseful, thrilling, romantic & cute - I love this! So glad I bought it on blu-ray. It's honestly a really good anime. (Some of these reviews are missleading, this product is only the blu-ray/DVD combo pack and not the limited edition box set, even though I wish it was. I almost paid $20 extra (from another retailer since desertcart doesn't offer it) to get it but decided against it.) I enjoyed it so much, I was on the verge of tears several times. It's very emotional, showing character vulnerablinities and strengths. It has some truly beautiful detailed shots. It was actually very ambitious of Funimation to animate such a thing. Figure skating requires fluid animation. While the animation is not fluid while they are skating, in my opinion, for the most part and there are wonky and weird looking shots, I still enjoyed it and it didn't distract me from the moment too much. The movement can sometimes look a little like a flip book sometimes, a little jumpy and staggered, but like I said ambitous and emotional. There have been some beautiful detailed up close moments that I would love to have pictures of but, alas I can't. I really love the dynamic between the main characters Yuri and Victor. Representation in anime for me, mostly never happens. This is the first time seeing a character, Yuri who is probably most like my self. Thanks for that. I will treasure this purchase, always. It's an early birthday present to myself.
Review: "Kiss him, you fool!" - Japanese subtlety can be annoying. Take YURI ON ICE -- does its marriage of sports drama and romantic comedy promise more than it ultimately delivers, or does the show succeed because its boy-meets-boy love story is, you'll excuse the expression, a fairytale romance -- so idealized it exists in a realm of pure emotion? The backdrop is the small but passionate world of competitive figure skating, and the offbeat triangle that plays out against it -- a pair of twentysomething starcrossed lovers and the 15-year-old "punk" who wants to break them up -- is the excuse for a series of high stakes dance routines on ice. This is straight up eye candy: these boys move beautifully (and the "Welcome to the Madness" OVA will leave you panting), but the show is more about the pain of perfecting those athletic displays than about the display itself. Yuri and Victor, young men in the twilight of their career but for different reasons, and the "beautiful monster" Yurio, a teenaged vessel of pure rage channeled into art, keep finding ways of pushing each other into new emotional and artistic territory. That's what makes this such a joyous, hopeful series: we don't really want any of them, or even any of their competitors, to fail. Everyone has so much invested in winning. Everyone has their reasons. That said, there were times when I wanted to scream "Kiss him, you fool!" at the screen. Our heroes have their highs and lows, they're clearly in love with each other, there's a lot of crying and embracing, but why can't they explicitly plant a single kiss on the lips? There's a reason for that omission, but I don't get it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Work of Art
*by J***S on February 11, 2018*

There's not much more for me to say about the series itself that hasn't been said by others before me. If you need any convincing to watch Yuri!!! on Ice, just know that it had me in tears as I watched the show in the back of my lecture hall. There's so much heart put into this show and it really does pull you in. As for this release, it's a gorgeous limited edition set. If you love this show as much as I do, this is a must buy! The artbook comes with both officially released art and story boards which are so pretty to look at. Also included in the book are interviews with Kenji Miyamoto, the show's choreographer, as well as with Mitsurou Kubo and Sayo Yamamoto, the show's creators. They give a nice look into the work they put into creating this series. I love the art cards that came with the set as well; it's a pleasant surprise that they don't have a glossy finish because it makes the art stand out more. The box itself is a work of art itself with the holographic appearance and the choice of cover. The coloration is truly reminiscent of the show's opening theme and that ties in to the song's lyrics being written on the inside of the box!
