rats are smart and industrious
Was skeptical about this product, rats are smart and industrious. Figured they might get caught but would figure out how to open the door back up and escape, but I must say, this thing really works. I have a farm and a large chicken house. We used to have a fair number of black snakes so never noticed too much rat activity. But the last two years, no snakes and the rat population has boomed. We have smaller and rather good looking Norway rats but I can't have them infesting the chicken house. I've put this out over night and caught 8 one night, 9 on another night, its amazing!. I did take the advice of others and tie the exit (not entry) door shut with a small piece of wire so they can't push it open, its held by springs but I can see them pushing those wide enough to escape.

WOW.... Boy does this work.
I did as suggested. I baited the trap for three nights then on the forth I closed the doors and set the trap for the 1st time.To be honest I thought I would get 2 or 3 at most. When I checked the trap in the morning I had caught 10 rats.Exceeded my expectations by far.If I hear anyone complaining of rats you can be sure I will highly recomend this device.Update: last night I caught 15.

Repeated Success
I’ve used this trap for months now, but have failed to write a review. We have chickens and ducks and no matter how the food is stored or if the feeders are removed at night, the rats show up. The number of rats I’ve caught has varied. Sometimes zero in a night and sometimes as many as 8 in one night. Last night I set it up with sunflower seeds as the bait. I set a bucket partially filled with water on top. It’s best to weight the trap down to help prevent the rats from going in under the trap. This morning when I went into the coop that is attached to our old barn I was more than pleasantly surprised. The ratinator had captured 27 rats—juvenile and adult. One suggestion I would make in using the trap is to place a clip on the outside edge of the ramp before moving it. Rats are smart and if you tip the trap in the wrong direction the ramp will open and the rats will run out.

Update, this works! My rats must be super smart
I felt the need to update my review. There was a learning curve and I didn't have a lot of luck using it in my house, I did catch two and fingers crossed they are gone now but I have had excellent luck using this outside. They tore down a neighbors house and that is when all of my troubles began. I have chickens outside and apparently have been feeding that rats as well. I revamped my cage to make it rodent proof and started using the Ratinator outside. Took some trial and error but it has put a significant dent in the population as far as I can tell. No complaints now.

Trap does work. Is humane, if you let them go.
I had a rat in my garage for about eight months, and could not catch her with anything. Will not do poison, and did not want to hurt her. Rats are incredibly intelligent, and have the right to live. I tried a bunch of other live traps, and a barrel trap, and nothing worked. I caught her in only three days. I took her far away, and set her free. I hope she makes it. I feel bad about letting her go in the winter, but it was all I could do. I think the drowning them is barbaric. She did not deserve to die. It is a shame people are to lazy, and cruel, to do the right thing and set them free. Anyway, it does work. I would shop around for prices. I paid about thirty dollars to much.

Did not work at all
Used to catch rats that had gotten into my attic. Used tuna fish and then peanut butter. Left trap open as recommended. Put a camera up there and had several videos of rats coming up to cage and refusing to enter the enclosure. Moved it around. changed baits..did a rain dance and nothing. Kept trap up there for over a month. Pieces started to rust on the trap as well. Would not recommend at all. Useless.

Fine product, mixed results
Rats are smart. I've only caught one at a time, so far, and several nights with activity, but no luck. The cage design allows the bait to fall through to the ground and the rats will dig under the trap to get to the bait. Placing the trap on top of a piece of plywood solves this. The construction is durable and I expect to be able to use this for years.
